Kneeling on this reflective floor, the chilly sensation crept up along the skirt hem, while the line "Why is it that only now, when it's all said and done, can we understand each other?" echoed repeatedly in my mind. Putting together this Snezhnaya-styled Odette outfit from Genshin Impact took quite a bit of genuine effort. The custom blue-and-white gradient long dress radiates a chilly, aloof texture under the lights, and the golden patterns and delicate floral chest ornament across the bodice all required individual detail verification. The light blue long wig was trimmed and combed through numerous times, and the complex hair accessory atop the head adorned with white feathers and orange accents required plenty of hairpins to secure firmly.
While shooting this photo set, I kept pondering how to leverage body language to convey that sorrowful, desolate emotion. In the first photo, I looked down at my crossed hands, stretching my legs forward as much as possible with my center of gravity slightly leaning forward. This posture heavily tested core abdominal strength; because the floor was slippery, I had to point my toes tightly to make the high heels exhibit a natural sense of extension. By the second shot, I shifted into a pose with one hand propping up against the ground and the other hand raised near my cheek. To give the frame a more flattering curve, I purposefully adjusted the tilt angle of my hips, pressing my body's center of gravity onto my right wrist. As the lens focused on me, I kept hunting for that sorrowful gaze, attempting to transmit that unspeakable regret through the screen to anyone viewing the photos.
The cool-toned overhead lights at the convention venue cast down upon me, which, combined with the reflections projected onto the floor, significantly heightened the overall atmospheric vibe of the frames. Surrounding us were actually photography gear, light stands, and bustling crowds passing by, but once I slipped into character, I felt as though I was truly situated amid that vast expanse of ice and snow. Moving around in this outfit was genuinely no easy feat; while the layered skirt design looked stunning, sitting down and standing back up required extreme caution to avoid wrinkling the fabric or having it stepped on by the high heels. Though that pair of strappy light-colored high heels elongated my leg lines, maneuvering across the slick floor left the tops of my feet aching from the constriction, and my toes were continuously squeezed.
Whenever Odette comes to mind, images of isolation and struggle invariably surface. Just as the post description notes, guarding memories alone until mutual understanding is finally earned at the very end. Throughout the process of shooting this photo set, I tried to infuse this belated understanding into every lowered gaze and every breath. When the breeze brushed past the skirt hem, or when the venue's air conditioning stirred stray locks of hair, that sense of fragility emerged completely naturally. Although I didn't employ excessive exaggerated expressions or gestures, every inch of muscle control was dedicated to aligning with that soul dancing alone in the ice and snow.
I brought quite a few props this time, including the blue wing-like or fin-like decoration behind my back. While propping myself sideways on the ground, I had to fine-tune the angle multiple times to ensure it rendered flawlessly within the frame. During rest intervals between shots, even though my ankles ached to the point of trembling, seeing that chilly, shattered aesthetic displayed on the camera screen made every ounce of exhaustion feel entirely worth it. This is presumably the core charm of cosplay—using one's own body to gauge the depth of another soul. Looking back at these photos now, I can still feel that heavy, profound emotion from the shooting moment, and I hope to convey this unique atmosphere to everyone.
