Today's blue-and-white themed Cheerleader cosplay photoshoot was created during an offline Deep Light Imagery event, combining natural light and flash in an indoor sports equipment room and lounge area. A custom blue-and-white cheerleader uniform, yellow pom-poms, and a floating blue halo overhead—these elements combined form the core of this creative shoot. Having always loved this character's school uniform and athletic looks, I was finally able to complete an offline shoot in her cheerleader form.
In terms of prop preparation, the overhead halo was the absolute visual focal point, but it was also quite a challenge. To keep it stably suspended above my head or at the proper tilt angle during the shoot, I continually adjusted the mount and my posture. The 55mm f/1.8 lens from Deep Light Imagery played a pivotal role in these photos; its wide aperture produced a wonderfully soft background bokeh, cleanly separating cluttered shelves and equipment while locking visual focus squarely on the subject. Especially during the seated shots in Photos 3 and 4, natural light streaming through the left window harmonized with the backlight from behind, lending a luminous, translucent sheen to the edges of the blonde wig and making the halo overhead appear as though it were truly glowing.
For hair and makeup, I intentionally opted for a sheer, dewy foundation base paired with a light-blonde long straight wig with blunt bangs, complemented by vibrant bright blue contact lenses. This combination faithfully captured the 2D character's cool yet spirited essence while maintaining facial definition under bright lighting. The costume tailoring fits the body snugly: the halter-neck crop top with plaid accents and waist tie ribbons brings out the character's lively personality while highlighting athletic waist and leg contours in the frame. Preparing everything from makeup styling to getting fully suited up took about two hours; adjusting the hemline and wristband details on-site required a bit of adaptation to the gear's fit and weight.
Because the shooting environment featured realistic lifestyle elements like wooden vaulting boxes, scoreboards, and gym gear, the overall visual aesthetic aligned seamlessly with the campus sports club vibe from Blue Archive. I avoided overly aggressive color retouching, as fill lights like the Zhiyun X100 RGB provided an exceptional foundation of textural quality. The raw shots already exhibited great clarity, keeping skin tones very clean without disruptive color temperature shifts.
For posing, I explored two approaches: one was sitting on the wooden vaulting box using body curvature to project casual confidence; the other was sitting on the floor using the pom-poms as a foreground visual anchor. Photos 1 and 2 made great use of the floor's wood grain and authentic props like red and blue traffic cones and the scoreboard to keep the composition engaging. Photos 3 and 4 placed greater emphasis on mood and presence; crossing legs or stretching them naturally forward in a seated pose elegantly showcased the lines between the mini skirt and sneakers—an angle that felt unforced while highlighting costume design nuances in this Cosplay photography.
Under an athletic costume theme, non-standing poses can often better convey that relaxed, post-class downtime. The halo above and pom-poms below created an up-and-down visual harmony, lending dynamic storytelling to still photos. To ensure the pom-poms remained fluffy rather than deflated, I combed through the ribbons beforehand so every strand flared out with rich volume. The overall color rendition turned out remarkably pleasing: the blue, white, and yellow palette was not only striking, but also deeply resonant with the refreshing breeze of midsummer.
We encountered several unexpected hiccups on shooting day, like adjusting the folding position of the scoreboard or constantly checking whether the halo prop drifted off-axis in the frame, but reviewing the playback, these candid moments became distinct, memorable captures. Each photo displayed a different state—some more composed, others more playful. As a solo creative shoot during an event, I am thoroughly satisfied with the overall completion of this Asuma Toki cosplay. In particular, capturing such sharpness and atmosphere in a somewhat confined indoor space using the 55mm f/1.8 lens by Deep Light Imagery makes this Blue Archive project truly memorable.
