Facing the camera, I habitually wanted to project more of Fuxi's characteristic confidence and composure in my expressions, but the little black fairy prop in my hands completely stole the show. The plush toy's soft, squishy texture paired with its iconic large white eyes and cyan pupils meant that no matter how cool a face I pulled, seeing it always made me feel a sense of endearing contrast.
This look primarily recreated the black-and-white ensemble he frequently wears in the story: a white shirt base, a tailored black double-breasted vest, neat black trousers, and matching thick-soled boots, creating a crisp, clean visual profile. For cosplayers, minimalist characters like this are often the hardest to pull off—without elaborate accessories to mask flaws, every line relies heavily on tailored garment cuts. Because of this, I held myself to a higher posture standard when wearing this outfit, keeping my shoulders back and spine straight to align with his natural aura of taking control.
Styling the purple wig was another crucial part of preparation. This long, straight wig features a rich, cold-toned deep purple color; smoothing out the hair alone took considerable time, requiring repeated adjustments to the hair direction to achieve a natural, frizz-free look. Fortunately, the outcome in the photos was ideal—the slight untidiness of the hair strands added a touch of casual, everyday realism, making this 2D character feel much more vivid under a 3D lens.
The lighting conditions at the convention venue were quite complex, filled with large circular lights that could easily make facial light and shadow look washed out and harsh. Thankfully, photographer WiFi brought three professional softboxes and stands. In the shot with heavy background blur, we can see dense crowds and staggered booths out of focus behind me, but the subject remains tightly enveloped in light, creating a focused sense of visual tension. Maintaining these poses at the convention tested my endurance—like the shot where I crouch on one knee holding the prop, bending my knee repeatedly just to balance my center of gravity while keeping a cool, silent expression.
There was also the seated perspective on the ground, requiring me to sit cross-legged stably while lifting my arm to the visual peak, holding the prop in my right hand with steady suspended tension. The red bracelet on my wrist and the white shirt cuffs added nice little accents to the composition. To capture the moment I raised my head with downcast eyes, the photographer often crouched directly opposite me or even laid flat on the floor. We purposefully selected a relatively quiet open spot in the hall, successfully building a tiny several-square-meter universe reserved for the character's solitude with set equipment and help from friends.
To me, portraying this character was not merely a simple stacking of costume and makeup, but rather a gentle touch upon his inner world. His complex past and obsession with \"home\" manifest externally as a slightly cold, self-restrained, yet powerful aura. I tried to minimize pleasing the camera in my gaze, keeping my sight level while naturally turning my head or nonchalantly holding up the prop to mimic that presence of maintaining one's own rhythm even in a bustling environment. The fabric quality, prop accuracy, and the photographer's precise scene scheduling ensured this photo set didn't feel like stiff, forced posing, but rather as though I genuinely transformed into that young man for a brief moment. Though surroundings remained noisy, through the camera viewfinder, there were only me, the character, and that slightly mischievous little black sphere.
