[Barbara Cosplay] Genshin Impact Sailor Suit Photoshoot: Capturing Healing Moments in the Underground Parking Garage

When shooting this photo set, the scene was chosen in this cool-toned underground parking garage. After discussing with the photographer, we wanted a slightly industrial, dark background to contrast against this bright blue-and-white sailor-style outfit. The moment I changed into the costume, it felt a bit different from the expected pure "summer beach" vibe in my mind, but this contrast was genuinely exciting. The lighting in this parking garage was quite unique—large diffuse overhead fluorescent lights where the light spreads out without the strong directionality of a key light. This produced a relatively soft gray background and allowed ample room for post-processing color grading.

The costume this time features a blue-and-white sailor collar paired with off-white puff sleeves, complimented by a fairly large champagne-colored bow on the chest. In fact, with this separated sleeves and top design, special care was needed while posing, otherwise the puff sleeves could easily bunch up around the shoulders and look bulky. For footwear, I specifically chose blue-and-white striped chunky-heeled sandals adorned with small white flowers; this accessory worked wonders in full-body shots to visually elongate leg proportions.

Speaking of expressions, especially the close-up mentioned in the post—when taking that shot, I didn't actually make any exaggerated expressions. I simply relaxed my facial muscles a bit and controlled my contact lenses and eye focus to convey a mood that was relatively cool yet not overly distant. The gaze in the first photo indeed looks quite "full of stories," which I feel is largely thanks to the very clean makeup, with eyeliner and lower lashes delicately refined.

Regarding the poses, holding the swim ring was actually quite tiring. Especially with large inflatable swim rings, the center of gravity is unstable, yet I had to coordinate various angles to showcase the full outfit. The pose in the third photo—standing with legs spread and one hand resting on the swim ring—looks dynamic, but in truth, I stood like that just to balance my center of gravity; the photographer captured it very opportunely. There was also the single-leg standing pose; although the chunky heels were a manageable height, it still tested my core strength, but fortunately, the overall effect in this set appears quite effortless.

My chemistry with the photographer was very smooth. A darker, industrial-style underground parking garage can easily turn out dull, but luckily the bright colors of this costume—blue, white, and beige—retained their fresh texture under the mercury lights. Skipping an actual beach location gave this summer-themed outfit an extra touch of urban modernity, which felt like unlocking a brand-new style.

Lastly, I want to say that when doing character-faithful cosplay, beyond getting costumes and props as accurate as possible, the most key aspect is finding the character's "self-sense" within a specific environment. Although this styling leans toward a casual swimsuit vibe, the gritty texture of the garage actually amplified that distinct exquisiteness and independence unique to 2D anime characters. Behind every photo lies countless trials and adjustments; coming across the right timing, a great location, and a wonderful photographer is a truly joyful experience in itself.
