Today, I'm sharing the shoot diary for this Blue Archive Misaki cosplay. From initial prep to final delivery took about two weeks, with the majority of effort poured into fine-tuning the nuances of the props, hair, and makeup.
First, let's talk about the wardrobe. To capture the character's languid yet subtly distant demeanor, I chose an oversized pure White shirt with long sleeves. I selected a fabric with beautiful drape so the wrinkle contours would fall naturally when sitting or kneeling. The collar was left unbuttoned organically without rigid styling, and the sleeves fell just over the back of my hands to add effortless casualness when gesturing. The bottom was paired with white shorts to cultivate that "bottomless" illusion during seated shots.
The props were the true highlight of this shoot. The floating metallic halo hovering above my head was actually supported by a clear acrylic rod; to conceal the anchor points, I secured numerous bobby pins into the wig, adjusting the angle repeatedly until it looked authentically suspended on camera. The black beast ears feature white plush fluff inside; using styling spray and flat pins, I secured them firmly onto the twin hair buns on either side of the wig, accenting the base of the left ear with a blue ribbon—a standout detail from her canon design. The black choker around my neck with its silver pendant is extremely lightweight, remaining comfortable without pinching even during extended wear.
The wig is dark blue-black, cut straight and long with blunt bangs. To prevent harsh shine, I dusted loose powder across the bangs before shooting. The makeup leaned toward soft pink tones; the eyeshadow and blush utilized low-saturation pinkish-brown shades, paired with slightly enlarging colored contacts to soften my gaze. The eye makeup emphasized elongated outer corners, complemented by a dewy light-red lip glaze for a clean, luminous finish.
The location was an indoor space featuring grey metal lockers and a white cushioned examination table. This cool-toned environment combined with wooden flooring fit the character's setting exceptionally well. For lighting, the key light utilized a softbox angled from the front-side, casting gentle facial shadows while preserving background greyscale so the subject stood out crisply.
Regarding choreography, because the post focuses on Manga legs, the photographer and I invested great effort into composition and posing. For the photo seated on the edge of the bed in photo 3, the photographer framed from a slight low angle—one leg dangling naturally while the other was bent, utilizing wide-angle perspective to elongate the Manga legs lines. The kneeling glance back over the shoulder in photo 1 prioritized an upright posture and nuanced eye contact; to capture the most organic expression, we shot over a dozen consecutive takes. Since I was barefoot, repeatedly shifting balance between the firm mattress and wooden floor left my calves and insteps quite sore, but seeing the lighting texture in the finished shots made the physical effort completely worthwhile.
I believe every cosplay is an interpretation of the character. It's not merely about putting on identical garments, but capturing the character's living essence in that exact split second before the lens. The overall vibe of this shoot was relaxed, and the final results met all our expectations. With these photos organized, I plan to rest for a few days to recharge, and compile behind-the-scenes footage along the way.
