The post-processing focus for this set of photos was centered on crafting a cool-toned ambiance. While initial shooting is crucial, fine post-processing adjustments are key to defining the final look. The raw photos lacked strong light-shadow contrast, and the messy red halos in the background were somewhat faint, requiring extensive reframing and color grading. First, I balanced the exposure in the photo editor, darkening the outer edges to keep only the main subject illuminated. Next, by adjusting the color balance, I turned the subject's skin into a translucent cool white, thoroughly emphasizing that cool and alluring texture while boosting the saturation of the background's red halos to create a vivid cool-and-warm contrast against the character.
The first image took a completely different editing direction. Because there was a silhouette of a weapon in the foreground, I decided to completely blur it with soft light and mist effects, adding highlights above the character's head so that the entire silhouette appeared to dissolve into a cool fog. This hazy quality was perfect for conveying the character's mysterious demeanor.
Talking about the styling, pairing Silver hair with a black Eyepatch is a match made in heaven. The exposed shoulder reveals a crescent moon tattoo, complemented by black-and-white long gloves, a black dress, and White stockings, making the overall color scheme exceptionally cohesive. Handling the sheen on the White stockings was challenging; during post-processing, special care had to be taken to preserve highlights to highlight the fabric texture. The Eyepatch blocked almost all my vision, so getting the shots depended entirely on real-time directions from the photographer. Luckily, when tilting my head to look back, the unfocused look in my eyes actually looked more natural.
To match the overall coolness, low-saturation tones were chosen for makeup. The prop used was a long katana; since the blade reflected light heavily, I deliberately aligned the back of the blade against my arm during framing to create a clear visual leading line. This pose demanded waist and back strength, but I pushed through to hold striking lines.
The most frequently used feature in the editing app was local adjustments, using brushes to deepen the shadows along the edges of the White stockings, which not only slims the legs but also accentuates texture. Between the haze of the first photo and the high-contrast cool tones of the second, I found the optimal visual balance through constant micro-adjustments of density, brightness, and shadow. The before-and-after difference in this edit is quite noticeable—from the raw shot under ordinary ambient lighting to infusing a cool-toned atmosphere in post-processing. The whole process was not only an application of technique, but also a reinterpretation of the character's personality and overall tone. When shooting crisp, cool-toned imagery, avoid retouching skin to look overly rosy; always preserve that serene, cool translucency, which is why I focused on the base tone. This combination of shooting and post-processing stands as one of my most satisfying works recently.
