[Exusiai the New Covenant cosplay] Arknights 7th Anniversary: Photography Approaches Across Different Scenes

This photoshoot for Exusiai the New Covenant cosplay revolved primarily around two completely distinct color tones and atmospheres. The first set, taken at night, utilized wide-aperture city bokeh paired with post-added luminous halos and geometric fragments, elevating the overall ethereal and sci-fi tech feel. During night shooting, light reflection significantly impacts the texture of the red wig, requiring precise positioning of hair highlights while testing the layered depth of the black top under dim lighting. The second set, taken during the day, shifted entirely to a realistic style: rough stone walls served as the backdrop, where cool, hard tones under natural light paired with black Stockings and shorts to highlight long leg lines, showcasing a battle-ready presence distinct from the nighttime set.

In terms of early styling, the gradient on the red hair was tricky to manage; setting the natural curl of the side ponytail required meticulous styling. The costume features extreme black-and-white contrast: the relaxed drape of the black sleeveless top and white jacket clashed sharply with the ruggedness of black fingerless gloves, dog-tag necklace, and prop gun. In particular, pairing black Stockings with shorts elongated the leg lines while amping up visual tension across the entire look. To convey the character's agility during shooting, I adjusted the angles of bowing my head and raising my hands in the night scene, giving the white jacket a dynamic windblown momentum. Meanwhile, the angle seated on the stone wall gripping the gun was chosen to emphasize prop details and focused intensity in the eyes.

Participating in the Arknights 7th Anniversary Creator Support Program throughout this shoot provided immense inspiration. From a photography standpoint, both nighttime neon bokeh and daytime natural light demand exceptional expressive control from the cosplayer. While visual effects enrich the frame, maintaining the authentic realism of the original costume and physical form during the shoot is essential to keep post-production VFX from overpowering the subject. Beyond looking into the lens, one must coordinate with the photographer's spatial requirements—such as finding a clean railing background free of clutter at night or locating an evenly textured stone wall by day—to leave ample room for post-production. The weight of the prop gun and accessory details were also meticulously calibrated to ensure every element matched the character's lore. The most rewarding aspect of 3D cosplay is transforming 2D designs into three-dimensional reality: every contour shadow in makeup and fold in the costume must be faithfully captured within the world's setting. The smooth realization of this work is owed to continuous lighting adjustments on set and deep immersion into the character's mindset—every shutter click was a fresh interpretation of her inner world.
