The moment I changed into this striped suit and the inner cheongsam, I instantly felt Misaki's calm yet slightly mysterious temperament. For these Cosplay convention photos from Shanghai CPSP, I specially chose this navy-blue cheongsam with a dragon pattern as the base layer, draped a loose striped coat over it, and put on the glowing crescent headpiece and butterfly hair clips. I felt my entire aura completely change. During the shoot, I tried a few different angles, including both squatting and sitting postures, but ultimately felt that the composition of the sitting posture holding the long pipe (or that prop) best fit the character's calm presence of "ruling over a domain."
The lighting at the venue was quite messy, but the photographer did a great job using a large aperture to blur out the background, highlighting the subject's silhouette and the glowing effect of the headpiece. The drape of the striped suit contrasts beautifully with the slim-fit tailoring of the cheongsam. Combined with the prop matching of black gloves and a leather suitcase, it gave the entire look a much higher level of completion.
Although people were constantly coming and going in the exhibition hall, the moment I got into character, it felt as if I were truly in a courtyard of Shanhaijing, waiting for that Sensei who always arrives a bit late. This costume has a lot of details, such as the frog buttons at the collar, the subtle patterns on the cuffs, and the braided styling of the wig; a lot of thought went into restoring them all. Throughout the shooting process, I also kept reminding myself to maintain Misaki's expression—that slight upward gaze, carrying a hint of scrutiny yet filled with trust. Convention photos actually test on-site reflexes much more than studio shoots, but fortunately, I am highly satisfied with the results this time.
