This Marisa Kirisame cosplay outfit is modeled after her appearance in Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object. Since it's not magic unless it's flashy, and danmaku is all about firepower, I paid close attention to prop and accessory fidelity when preparing this ensemble. The black velvet vest feels dense and substantial, with delicate red ribbons and red button details at the collar. On the brown apron, a large letter 'M' was cut directly from felt fabric. The hat took a long time to select—the lace trim needed to be sufficiently stiff to maintain a perfect curve when worn, with the red side ornaments and beige ribbon bows serving as finishing touches. The wig features long, golden curly hair; styling the bangs and side braids took considerable effort, layering and smoothing them out first before setting them with a curling iron. The white socks and platform shoes on my feet were very comfortable, swaying naturally with a playful vibe while walking.
The shooting took place outside the venue at Firefly ACG Expo. The sun was blazing, creating intense backlighting. When this light hit the golden wig, it cast a gorgeous halo around the edges, instantly making the wig look much more natural. For props, I brought both a broom and a wand. The broom handle features a black-and-gold spiral pattern with purple and orange faux fibers at the base, while the wand has a curling golden tip. Both felt quite hefty in hand; holding them steady required constant arm strength throughout the shoot. To strike dynamic, energetic poses, I tried standing on one leg and half-crouching, which demanded steady core strength while managing my facial expressions to project a sense of being ready to unleash magic at any moment. The hat slipped easily, so I had to secure it with several bobby pins. The photographer, Miaowu, used the venue's metal railings as foreground and background elements to block out the cluttered crowd behind, creating a dreamy, hazy backlit aesthetic. Beyond full-body standing shots, I also took many close-ups holding different props, such as single-leg standing poses with the broom and half-body shots wielding the wand, which I felt best captured the character's dynamic tension.
To convey the character's personality, I kept my facial expressions animated and made expansive movements with a confident flair during the shoot. Inspired by the lore of Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object, I continuously visualized the excitement and rush of firing danmaku during high-speed flight. The completion of this outfit owes much to careful initial tailoring, like the white ruffled hem creating distinct layers against the black velvet skirt. I also added inner lining to the vest so it wouldn't look loose or sloppy. The convention venue was crowded, and getting clean backgrounds in such a noisy environment was entirely thanks to the photographer's experience and real-time direction. These Cosplay convention photos not only captured lovely moments, but also demonstrated my dedication to bringing the character to life. Even though wearing the costume for hours felt stuffy and the heavy props left my arms sore, successfully portraying this character and capturing this photo set in front of the lens was the greatest reward. Looking at these finished photos makes all the effort feel worthwhile, and I hope everyone who sees them can feel this character's vibrant energy.
