This shoot brought the summer swimsuit version of Kisaki from Blue Archive—Kisaki (Swimsuit)—to life, centered around the theme of a Schale holiday.

Starting with hair and makeup: styling the long gray-blue wig required immense patience, particularly shaping the side braids and the arc of the bangs, which had to frame the face contours closely to convey her signature aloof composure. The iconic metallic-textured hair ornament at the crown was secured with numerous hairpins to ensure zero slipping during the session. The makeup avoided overcomplication, focusing primarily on the eyes with low-saturation shades to ground the subtle mood, while the base foundation maintained the clean, translucent glow essential for White studio photography.

For wardrobe styling, the black bandeau top was matched with an oversized charcoal-gray wide-sleeved jacket, worn deliberately slipped off the shoulder to impart a relaxed, languid demeanor. The sunglasses hung at the chest served as a chic decorative detail, paired with teal swimwear bottoms and black lace-up gladiator sandals below. White studio lighting is straightforward and unencumbered by environmental spill, which demands that both skin texture and fabric details withstand tight close-up inspection. Thankfully, the key-to-fill lighting ratio was tuned impeccably on set, cleanly preserving the textural tiers of the blacks and grays.

In terms of props, the translucent oil-paper umbrella played a pivotal role. The opened canopy framed a sharp spatial division against the pristine white cyclorama, casting delicate soft shadows along the perimeter to chisel out crisp facial contours. For the first shot, sitting cross-legged on the floor while holding the umbrella in one hand and sunglasses in the other required channeling her trademark emotional detachment. The second shot utilized a butterfly prop as a visual guide, looking down gently at the pale-blue butterfly perched in hand to cultivate an aura of tranquil mystique.

Evoking a summer getaway within the confines of a white cyclorama was definitely a creative challenge. Without azure skies, clouds, or beaches, every hint of the ambient atmosphere relied on body language and tactile props. To match Kisaki (Swimsuit)'s persona, most poses favored stillness and restraint—such as leaning lightly against the umbrella shaft for support or using the billowing sleeves to add visual tension across the composition. The photographer tested numerous perspectives, purposefully elongating leg lines while seizing close-ups of eye contact, waist contours, and midriff lines.

The entire journey from prep to wrap took immense dedication, with wig maintenance and outfit resets occupying most of the time. The final photo suite isolates and highlights the subject and her summer attire flawlessly against the pure white canvas. I hope everyone enjoys this interpretation of Kisaki (Swimsuit)!
