[Hiyuki cosplay] Wuthering Waves Snowy Sakura Realm: The Clash of Light and Shadow on Red and White Attire

For shooting this outdoor Cosplay work of Hiyuki from Wuthering Waves, I chose a special scene where snow and cherry blossoms intertwine.
The modified shrine maiden attire in a red and white color scheme creates a very strong visual impact against the snowy scene and cherry blossoms, and the final photos unexpectedly fit the character's temperament perfectly.

Let's talk about the overall styling design this time. The white wig was specially selected by me; the hair strands appear more voluminous than a regular silver wig, allowing a better flowing feel in the wind. The red bow on top of the head is quite solid, and I needed to find the right angle when wearing it so it wouldn't flatten the top of the hair. The biggest highlight of this costume is the off-the-shoulder design and the detailed patterns on the clothing. The deep blue waist sash paired with metal buckles adds layers to the outfit, but this also meant I had to spend a lot of time before the shoot adjusting the straps and avoiding wardrobe glitches to ensure the quality of the final photos.

The selection of the prop sword was also intended to match the overall style; the white hilt combined with a subtle glow effect was specially enhanced during post-processing to intensify the ice-blue halo along the blade, highlighting that frozen texture of a polar winter. In the design of the sword-holding poses, we needed to maintain the tension of swinging the sword while conforming to the elegance of the character when drawing the blade. Tilting the body slightly allowed the light to reflect from the blade onto my face, better conveying the focus in my gaze.

Shooting in a Snowy outdoor scene is not easy; under sub-zero temperatures, the exposed shoulders and neck were the ultimate test. However, fortunately, the fine snow drifting down during the shoot was perfect, which, along with the scattered cherry blossom petals, left the frame without a single trace of discordance. For the composition, a large depth of field was selected to include the Japanese torii gate and the snow-capped mountains in the background. Combined with placing the figure in the center, the frame appeared grand and expansive.

In terms of light usage, it relied primarily on the natural diffuse reflection light of an overcast day. This soft diffuse reflection can prevent overexposure, beautifully outlining the textures of the white hair and the folds of the clothing. For the post-processing color grading, we depressed the overall highlights, emphasizing the cool blue-and-white tones while preserving the pink of the cherry blossoms, making the entire environment as delicate as an Anime-style photography drawing.

Snapping dynamic moments was the difficult point of this shoot; we needed to master the timing of the wind blowing, quickly pressing the shutter to capture the highest point of the hair flying up. This kind of dynamic movement required repeated attempts many times to get a satisfying photo. The snowy outdoor scene ground was soft, requiring extra caution when walking to prevent clothes from getting muddy or the skirt hem from getting wet. The team also offered a lot of help, providing professional support from lighting to scene setup.

This time the official photos made the ultimate effort to restore the character's cold elegance and combat stance. With the photographer's help, the expression of light, shadow, and clothing materials all reached expectations. Reviewing the entire process after every shoot, the control of details is always the key to determining the quality of the final photos.
