[Shinano cosplay] Azur Lane: Fluffy Colossal Tails Beside the Pool

Traveling to Haikou, Hainan for this shoot, our primary set was staged right beside an open-air swimming pool. The sun was blazing with intense heat that day, but the azure pool waters and lush tropical greenery brought an instant sense of visual cooling. To faithfully embody Shinano from Azur Lane, we poured tremendous dedication into both wardrobe and props.

Touching upon the styling details: the top was tailored in delicate white lace layered over lavender-tinted sheer gauze, accented at the bust by an azure satin ribbon bow. The sleeves were designed as voluminous, translucent flowing cuffs, draped in a gossamer lilac robe that billowed weightlessly whenever a gentle sea breeze drifted past. Complementing the character's signature languid grace, the wig was styled as long, straight lilac tresses with blunt bangs, flanked by oversized plush white fox ears with a miniature yellow plush accessory resting right at the crown between them. The most intricate part was undeniably the cascade of massive white tails trailing behind me. To achieve that full, fan-spread layout on camera, I spent over an hour the previous evening brushing out every single strand of faux fur, and during shooting, had to calibrate each angle with extreme care to prevent them from crushing or soaking up pool water.

As teased in my preview, many wondered whether the tails would hinder swimming. While this fluffy rig looks dramatic, the textile itself is actually water-resistant and offers some buoyancy. Of course, to preserve the hair and cosmetics, we didn't fully submerge, instead framing the composition seated beside the pool's stainless steel ladder. Resting on the grey-and-white stone tile coping, I raised both hands to graze the fox ears atop my head, knees bent and toes relaxed. The photographer captured the lighting with consummate skill; the diffused caustics bouncing off the aquatic surface illuminated my face, rendering the eye makeup and skin texture luminous and translucent.

The shooting process was far from effortless. Sustaining Shinano's noble yet languid presence meant keeping my gaze soft rather than piercing, all while exuding an effortless, all-encompassing serenity. Meanwhile, the large yellow round plush pillow prop required mindful balance—holding it comfortably while ensuring my tail rig didn't snag against the metal ladder rungs. Every pose reset necessitated smoothing the skirt hem and sheer sleeves to maintain clean kinetic flow along the frame's edges.

Haikou in Hainan is truly ideal for Anime-style photography; the radiant daylight combined with tropical botanical backdrops resonated seamlessly with the character's ethereal atmosphere. This set serves as an initial teaser, with more perspectives and full-length proofs to follow. Despite the sweltering heat and the endurance required to wear so many plush layers, seeing the magic materialize across the camera monitor made every drop of sweat worthwhile. I hope this poolside series brings everyone a touch of serene coolness in the summer heat.
