Walking around Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo all day sporting a pink wig and Elf ears while wearing this white battle robe, I felt like I was literally melting in the Guangdong heat. To bring this look to life, I crawled out of bed past 6 AM to do my makeup. Pairing pink-toned eyeshadow and lip color with this hairstyle certainly makes one look youthful, but it can also easily flatten facial features. Therefore, I spent ages carefully polishing my contouring and highlights to ensure my features appeared much more dimensional before the lens. For this makeup look, I deliberately placed pearl appliques under my eyes, which caught the convention hall lights with subtle, delicate shimmers, dialing the detail work up to the max.
The costume features incredibly intricate details: a high-collared white choker paired with a blue bowtie, a cutout bodice adorned with purple tassels, and waistline detailing complete with ribbons and star-shaped metallic rivets. The most challenging components were definitely the detached sleeve pieces and the white lace thigh-high White stockings. To secure the silver metallic rings at the cuffs, I wrapped several rounds of tape around my arms, having to maintain pristine posture while walking to keep the garments from shifting.
Even though the venue's AC was blasting on full, the massive crowds combined with my heavily layered attire soon had me drenched in sweat. Just when I felt on the verge of heatstroke, a gigantic white mascot appeared before me. It claimed to be a seagull, though its round, chubby body and orange little feet looked unmistakably more like a little chick. It waddled over and handed me an adorably shaped ice cream. Holding this 'seagull ice cream'—hailed by everyone as a lifesaving miracle—I snapped some photos and quickly took a bite. The refreshing chill instantly spread from my throat throughout my entire body, finally relieving the distress brought on by the scorching heat.
After finishing the ice cream, I spotted a massive blue screen prop nearby, bearing the Xunlei Browser logo at the bottom. I walked over to pose for a picture with it, and also discovered a gigantic pop-up comic book beside it. I tried flipping through it; the internal pop-up engineering was designed so cleverly, with 3D scenes springing to life as the pages opened, which was delightful. At this booth, I also tried out the browser's anime-finder feature. While I rarely use this app in daily life, trying it out today showed that not only is it great for reading manga, but watching anime is remarkably smooth—and most importantly, saving the hassle of scouring different channels.
Because the outfit is pure white, brushing against even a tiny speck of dust inside the hall would be glaringly obvious. Thus, I was extraordinarily careful while walking, avoiding leaning against walls or booths. The tailoring of this costume is also very flattering to the figure; the cutout at the chest and the cinched waist accentuate crisp, graceful curves, while the White stockings lend a pure yet subtly sensual aura. Photographers on site also praised the outfit for being exceptionally photogenic. They were enthusiastic, guiding me through various poses. To make the lines of the White stockings and long legs pop, I tried poses such as lifting one leg, which made this look one of the most captured styles by lenses throughout the hall for Convention photos.
Today's expo journey was truly a test of physical stamina. Striding in white high heels all day left my calves and soles aching, and the top bands of the thigh-high socks left faint indentation marks. Yet being able to interact with such an oversized mascot, meeting so many friendly photography enthusiasts, and documenting this coordination of a white battle robe and White stockings made every bit of exhaustion worthwhile. Anime conventions are truly places you love despite the weariness; back at the hotel, I must soak my feet immediately, soothe my legs, and put on a face mask to rescue skin battered by high heat and heavy makeup, wrapping up these memorable Convention photos for this cosplay.
