[Chuya Nakahara cosplay] Capturing a Bungo Stray Dogs Moment in Front of the Rose Wall in Changsha

This time, I cosplayed Chuya Nakahara from Bungo Stray Dogs, choosing an atmospheric cafe-bar in Changsha as our shoot location. Having an entire wall adorned with red and black roses as the backdrop offered striking visual impact, perfectly complementing a character defined by vintage poise and subtle dark elegance.

Regarding hair and makeup, special care went into styling the wig's layers, allowing the orange color to pop brilliantly under the venue's lighting. The base foundation was kept porcelain fair, paired with light-blue contact lenses and deeper eye makeup to accentuate the intensity of the gaze. The costume was custom-tailored: the black buttons on the vest, the pinstriped sleeves, and the tactile texture of the leather gloves all captured accurate character details. The fedora served as an indispensable element of the shoot, sharpening the character's silhouette.

The shooting process unfolded very smoothly. The vintage faux-leather chair provided by the shop owner was an immense asset, fitting right into the gothic mood. Because the ambient lighting was gentle and diffused, the resulting photo textures turned out remarkably fine. We captured numerous shots, and the poses felt increasingly natural as the session progressed. My personal favorite is the fourth half-body close-up: resting a hand on the hat brim while looking into the lens captured the character's expression most completely.

From a technical perspective, lighting control is paramount when photographing enigmatic characters; it must not be overly harsh, allowing soft shadows to fall naturally across the face. Meanwhile, props like the gloves and hat must be positioned organically without looking staged. Because we took so many pictures, narrowing down the selection was quite a dilemma.

Beyond offering photogenic backdrops, the venue serves wonderful beverages—ideal for resting after the session. The owner clearly understands photography, having curated the sets with meticulous care. My mindset remained relaxed throughout, as an immersive environment truly sparks fresh creative inspiration. If opportunity permits, I would love to return and shoot other characters here; such a backdrop is ideal for a full cosplay set and saves considerable effort during color grading.

Reviewing these photos now brings back fond memories of the shoot. While brief preparation meant a few minor details had room for polish, the overall ambiance was spot-on—making it a deeply rewarding and joyful experience.
