Choosing to release this Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay Birthday celebration photo set at midnight on February 14, 2026 (Tokyo Time) was not just about the ceremonial timing, but also a meaningful wrap-up of this photography project.

Instead of the conventional stage performance costume, I selected this red-and-black dress with a subtle vintage gothic aesthetic. Black lace gloves, an expansive black skirt hem, metal buckles on the corset, paired with an ice-blue twin-tail wig create a striking visual warm-cool contrast. The lower half was styled with Black stockings and chunky black ankle boots, enhancing overall sleek lines while making the posture appear more poised. To capture the character's temperament, the makeup specially highlighted amber-colored contact lenses, with pinkish blending around the eyes and cheeks, paired with braided bangs to evoke a mysterious yet subtly melancholic atmosphere.

The shoot took place primarily across two locations. First, in front of a vintage solid-wood piano, where white sheer curtains on French windows filtered natural light into a very soft glow, casting textured light over the red-and-black outfit and wood grain. During shooting, key emphasis was placed on catchlights to give the character's pupils a translucent clarity. Second, inside a café featuring pink drinks and delicate pastries on the table. When capturing shots of eating cake and sipping drinks, I tried to capture a relaxed side of the character, using overlaid hand-drawn doodles (such as hearts, cats, and cakes) in post to create a cute, everyday contrast. The overall lighting favored soft, high-key illumination.

Before the shoot, a lot of thought went into costume details—repeatedly adjusting the layering between red-and-black velvet and tulle, as well as the volume of the wig. When posing on the vintage sofa and piano bench, careful attention was paid to showcasing the Black stockings and leg lines to ensure the composition remained eye-catching.
