[Phrolova cosplay] Wuthering Waves: An Undying Song of Life

I am personally very satisfied with the overall outcome of this shoot for Wuthering Waves' Phrolova (Phrolova cosplay) at the Wuhan Mengxiang Anime Convention.

First, regarding the outfit experience: I chose a white lace strapless dress featuring an asymmetrical, multi-layered wavy hemline—short on the inside and long on the outside—so that the sheer tulle train flowed with graceful movement while walking. To enhance visual depth, the look was heavily accented with crimson Spider Lily blossoms and slender red ribbons. This red-and-white color contrast popped exceptionally well under the intricate convention hall lighting, though it required careful securing of the ribbons to prevent them from getting stepped on or caught on neighboring booths in the crowded venue.

For the wig, I styled a long mint-green wavy wig, spending around forty minutes braiding it into two thick plaits, using hairspray and styling clips to make the braids flare upward on both sides. This sculpted my facial silhouette nicely while preserving structural volume before the camera. Makeup focused heavily on the eyes, using reddish eyeshadow to echo the Spider Lily props, paired with a clean, dewy foundation to channel the character's serene, ethereal presence.

Shooting at an Anime convention is a true test of stamina and endurance. To match the character design, I wore ultra-high crimson platform block-heel sandals paired with intricately patterned lace White stockings. While these heels dramatically elongated my leg lines, standing and posing for extended periods in the hall was physically exhausting. To capture dynamic snapshots of fluttering hems and ribbons, the photographer framed from low angles looking upward. I had to continually shift my center of gravity, keeping my upper torso upright with my right arm extended outwards and my left hand raised delicately holding a flower, maximizing bodily elongation. The floating Spider Lily blossoms and red ribbons resulted from a blend of practical props and post-production effects; we dedicated substantial effort to composition to cleanly separate the subject from the blurred crowd in the background.

Many wondered how manageable this look was at a convention. Because the fabrics are airy and the gloves are semi-sheer tulle, they easily snag in crowds, requiring vigilance throughout the event. Between takes, I slipped into a jacket in a quiet corner to rest and readjust my footwear and stockings, ensuring peak presence whenever stepping back before the lens.

In interpreting and portraying Phrolova, I avoided exaggerated expressions, relying instead on a calm gaze and composed body language to convey a tranquil yet vibrant vitality. This Anime convention cosplay wasn't merely about layering visual elements; it aimed to express a presence that is both light and resolute. The atmosphere at the Wuhan convention was wonderful, filled with fellow fans recognizing the character, offering water, and helping watch bags. From styling to the final shutter click, everything unfolded smoothly for a truly memorable convention experience.
