[Cartethyia Cosplay] Wuthering Waves Saintess and Large and Small Cartethyia's Beach Encounter

True to the name of the Saintess, we brought this Wuthering Waves Cartethyia shoot to an authentic coastal location. Driven by our desire to capture Large and small Cartethyia sharing the same frame, my partner and I dedicated considerable time to preparation. The shooting environment proved quite demanding: gusty ocean winds swept across the shore, and the afternoon sun was intensely piercing. For the final backlit series in particular, capturing the luminous halo spilling across our floating ribbons and sword required standing in ocean tides for ages just to secure a handful of satisfying shots.

The costume craftsmanship is extraordinarily dense, featuring black and white paneling interlaced with ethereal blue chiffon streamers. These long streamers proved difficult to tame in coastal winds, frequently snarling together; between takes, my partner and I constantly smoothed each other's outfits while treading carefully to avoid stepping on the floor-sweeping blue cape. The blue sword prop carried noticeable weight, leaving our arms aching over long holds, yet holding firm was essential to embody the Saintess's combative and protective resolve.

For the interactive poses between Large and small Cartethyia, we designed deliberate physical storytelling. The first shot—kneeling in embrace on the sandy beach—sought to convey the fated bond shared between the Saintesses; the second, standing resolute with drawn blade, expressed unyielding determination when facing the unknown. Fitting my partner's wig and Elf ears demanded tremendous effort, requiring numerous bobby pins to keep everything anchored against the breezy coastal walk. While physically grueling, seeing the finished frames made every ounce of effort worthwhile. The turbid yellow-brown undertone of the shoreline waters contrasted with the deep blue open sea beyond, and the shimmering, wave-kissed highlights under backlighting imbued the photos with an epic scale unattainable in a standard studio. As cosplayers, from hair and makeup to on-location staging, we aimed to inhabit the characters to our utmost and honor this attire. It was an unforgettable creative voyage, and we hope everyone feels the sincere dedication we poured into it.

Pre-production was actually quite rushed, leading us to scrutinize every detail of Cartethyia's garments for hours. The chain embellishments across the décolletage and the cutout waistline were especially finicky, requiring both of us to adjust the fit so the pieces stayed flush during dynamic motion. My partner's makeup was applied slightly heavier than her usual routine, with multiple blended layers of eyeshadow; to emphasize an ethereal, fairy-like coolness, we discarded standard fill lights in favor of raw beach sunlight. In the backlit setups, ensuring crisp silhouette contours necessitated over a dozen camera height and blocking resets. Several rogue waves broke over our boots, yet those spontaneous splashes lent genuine authenticity to the scene.

The prop sword's paint was prone to glares under broad daylight; to keep it from looking plasticky, we gave the surface a matte gradient treatment. Swinging the weapon called for measured control to avoid accidental collisions. This shoot was not merely a physical workout, but an exercise in unwavering focus. We had to shout cues over roaring surf while monitoring flyaway hair strands to keep our expressions clean. Often, securing a single perfect ribbon sweep required running through the wind repeatedly. Free of flashy gimmicks, the set was built on repeated trials and visual instinct. Differentiating yet uniting the temperaments of Large and small Cartethyia was our core vision. Every wisp of hair and furrow of fabric in the final images bears the authentic touch of sea wind and nature—the truest magic of outdoor photography.
