[Furina Cosplay] Freedom and Elegance on Her Birthday

The amount of detail on this costume is truly massive; from the small metal accessories on the hat to the hollowed-out gold borders on the coat cuffs, just putting it on and securing everything took nearly an hour. To recreate the character's temperament, a lot of testing was done on the curvature of the wig curls for the overall look, finally choosing this fluffy and slightly wavy silver-white hair color. The primary blue and white color scheme looks very layered under the soft light.

Today's shooting scene was very appropriately chosen. The venue was arranged with semi-translucent white gauze curtains and classical Roman columns, giving the entire space a cool yet soft feeling. The light became very even after diffuse reflection through the gauze, perfectly matching the cool-toned texture of this blue gown. Crystal candlesticks and blue-and-white floral arrangements served as the foreground, cleverly pulling out the spatial depth of the frame, making the arched windows and wooden window frames in the background appear indistinct.

The few photos sitting on the high stool were actually shot several times. To present that casual elegance, I needed to adjust the extension angle of my toes and the stretching of my leg lines. The back hem of the coat is very long, so I had to repeatedly arrange and spread it out when sitting down instead of letting it pile up, otherwise it would look cramped. For the other set of standing, single-leg-raised movements, I also needed to balance my center of gravity while keeping the clothing ribbons draping naturally. The coordination between the prop staff and the gloves also took some thought, not only paying attention to the grip posture of the fingers but also taking into account the position where the bottom of the staff contacted the ground.

Today is the character's birthday, and shooting this set of photos on this special day makes my state of mind somewhat different. For the character, a birthday is an excellent time anchor, allowing me to quiet my mind and feel the unknown delicateness and vulnerability behind her surface haughtiness and confidence as Fontaine's Water Goddess. Although it is only conveyed through photos, I still hope to capture that trait of being seemingly strong but actually soft inside. I hope she can always be free in that world, unbound by rules.

In terms of post-processing, I didn't do heavy filter rendering, mainly fine-tuning the layers of the blue and white colors to allow the deep blue and bright blue to form a more natural transition between light and dark. For light and shadow, I slightly darkened the highlights of the background to make the silhouette of the subject more prominent. The overall atmosphere has a hint more of coolness than I imagined, rather than being purely sweet or gorgeous.

The moment I received the retouched photos and saw those vivid moments frozen in time, I felt a great sense of achievement. The fabric of this costume actually has a slight shimmer; if the indoor lighting is not controlled well, it can easily overexpose, and a little carelessness will make the texture look fake, but the final effect was restored quite well in the lens. Happy birthday to her, and I also wish myself to always maintain this seriousness and focus in my future casual cosplay creations, integrating more understanding of the character into the frames.
