The photoshoot for this modified Traditional Chinese style Qipao look was actually prepared for quite a long time. Compared to the classic outfit of the original design, this time I tried to re-deconstruct Ganyu's visual elements using blue and pink tones. The wig is a light blue color with a bit of an airy feel, which, together with her iconic horn accessories and flawless base makeup, makes the overall look appear quite lightweight. I feel that the mix-and-match of Chinese style elements with materials like lace and plush fur is the key point of this styling. The pink plush long shawl not only adds volume but also serves to soften edges and enhance warm color contrast in the frame.
For the scene layout, we specifically chose a Chinese-style setting incorporating bamboo, wood elements, and floral partitions—such as the flower-and-bird screen, tea sets, and a birdcage in the background—hoping to create an atmosphere that sheds her ethereal divinity and leans closer to the mundane mortal world. This can be considered an attempt to bring some visual freshness while maintaining character accuracy. The light and shadow were cast softly during the shoot; in particular, the blue lighting creates a cool-and-warm contrast with the pink plush, making the character stand out more in the frame.
This kind of Chinese style styling with certain fantasy elements highly values a relaxed posture in front of the lens. Movements like holding a folding fan or gently brushing the shawl can bring motion to the frame, preventing it from looking too stiff. The photographer's capture was also spot-on, taking many candid shots of natural expressions. Although the costume features many exquisite accessories and gold thread embroidery, it didn't feel cumbersome during on-site movements; rather, due to the drape of the fabric and the support of the padding, it was reasonably comfortable to wear.
During post-processing, I preserved a certain amount of skin texture instead of over-smoothing it, focusing my energy primarily on ambient light rendering and detail texture enhancement, making the overall cool-toned atmosphere deeper. I hope this set of photos can showcase an image that bears character traits while possessing a unique stylized flavor.
Additionally, regarding the outfit coordination, I actually considered switching to a shawl of another color or removing the outer piece entirely, but in the end, we settled on this plush coat option, which is more memorable. My mood and condition on the day of the shoot were also great, so the entire process went smoothly. Overall, trying to interpret the character with an unconventional mindset this time made for a highly intriguing Cosplay photography experience.
