The visual narrative for this shoot was anchored around the everyday Campus style moments of Gu Yunchi and Li Shu from Trapped in Endless Night. Rather than deliberately recreating a specific iconic scene, our goal was to convey the unspoken companionship they share within a tranquil space. A classroom setting naturally carries a crisp, nostalgic school atmosphere. We intentionally scheduled the session around 4:00 PM to catch that stream of warm sunset slanting through the windows. As light filtered through the gaps between desks, casting long shadows across the floorboards, shooting directly against this strong backlighting posed a rigorous test for dynamic range and lighting balance. To keep our faces from falling into deep shadow while preserving the airy highlights of the backdrop, we paired reflectors with subtle low-angle fill lights.

Beyond camera gear, the wired handheld game console served as a central prop. To capture the sequence of sitting side by side across the wooden floorboards, we kept our center of gravity low. At first, we sat according to the blocking, but the moment the console powered on, we settled organically into character without needing scripted prompts. In their world, Gu Yunchi and Li Shu share an unspoken synergy; that deep bond naturally surfaced through the tilt of a shoulder and subtle shifts in eye lines as each shutter clicked. When a long-haired cat on set wandered into the frame, the scene immediately came alive. Cats are impossible to direct—it would bat playfully at the console's link cable one moment, then curl up peacefully across our laps the next. Embracing these unscripted interactions gave the images genuine warmth, steering clear of rigid, staged poses. For composition, we made thoughtful trade-offs, using the blurred desks and chairs in the foreground as an organic frame to guide visual focus entirely between the two of us.

For a duo shoot of this nature, garment textures demanded meticulous attention. The cut of the dark navy blazers, the crispness of the white shirt collars, and the knot alignment of the red-striped neckties had to be pristine; even the slightest misalignment would detract from their composed presence. I also spent considerable time refining the wig's layers so individual strands and airy volume remained legible under backlighting. The base makeup was kept translucent, concentrating effort on sharpening the brows and eye contours. From early location scouting and lighting calculations to dynamic candid captures on set, finished with warm color grading and softened contrast for a nostalgic film finish, the entire journey was taxing—yet seeing that quiet, serene twilight ambiance in the final frames made every bit of effort worthwhile.
