The excitement at the Azur Lane 2026 Port Midsummer Cool Festival was even more overwhelming than I had anticipated. This time, I went with a short White hair wig featuring bright blue highlights, while my partner wore long white hair with a black diamond-patterned headband. To keep the hairstyle dimensional under the exhibition's intense glare, the White hair wig received plenty of advance styling—especially the layered trimming of the bangs and the side shaping, which underwent several rounds of fine-tuning to achieve the current look.
The venue setup for this exhibition aligned impeccably with the game's aesthetic: the blue flame effect signboards behind the stage and the black-and-white checkerboard motifs naturally bathed everyone in a cool-toned ambiance. When taking photos, almost no additional fill lighting was needed; the background cyber neon provided excellent rim light. The only hurdle was the dense crowd inside the hall, which, combined with layered garments and heavy makeup, made the ambient temperature feel quite high—making setting spray and blotting paper absolute must-haves on hand.
My partner's magenta contacts and my icy blue contacts formed a striking visual contrast, and the material of her black geometric headband subtly echoed my black butterfly choker. We bumped into each other in the rest area by chance, discovered we were both veteran players of the IP, and decided on a whim to take a selfie together as a keepsake. Stumbling upon fellow fans randomly at an offline convention and instantly collaborating with effortless chemistry to capture a shot is truly a joy unique to anime conventions and Duo cosplay.
Regarding makeup, I deliberately enhanced the layering of the eye makeup, highlighting the inner corners with delicate fine shimmer to make the eyes appear more vibrant alongside the contact lenses. I opted for a semi-matte foundation so it wouldn't look overly greasy under convention lighting, while keeping cheek highlights restrained to avoid facial puffiness under strong illumination. The ruffles and bowties on the costume were ironed in advance to ensure they retained their tailored silhouette even in crowded conditions. The black butterfly choker around my neck was a key accent of the styling, not only flattering my neckline but also harmonizing beautifully with my partner's overall color palette.
From our morning arrival until the afternoon, we barely paused to rest—taking photos for others, being photographed ourselves, and navigating between multiple booths. Witnessing so many players' passion for the game, from exquisite merchandise to dedicated costumes, truly demonstrated that the value of such offline gatherings far exceeds expectations. While waiting in queues, people actively shared tips on managing wigs, such as keeping flipped-out short hairstyles from falling flat in muggy environments, or using hair wax to mold natural hair texture strands. Exchanging these practical nuances is immensely helpful for future convention appearances.
While walking around the venue, we maintained poised postures to match the character persona. Since no specific gestures were scripted, we chose to use the white plush props in our hands to enhance interactive energy in the frame. The plush props not only enriched the composition but also injected a touch of softness into the cool-toned backdrop. When snapping this selfie, we intentionally located a spot with blue luminescent installations in the background, allowing the light source to fall from the side and rear, accentuating facial contours while fully showing off the cyber aesthetic of the venue.
Though taking off makeup and detangling the wig late at night is tedious, being able to capture this joint photo on site made everything worthwhile. A convention is not just a stage to showcase oneself, but also a fantastic venue to exchange techniques with fellow fans. Today's overall experience was deeply rewarding; from hair and makeup prep to on-site improvisation, every phase tested our accumulated cosplay experience.
