Sharing my photoshoot experience and styling details from this Columbina Cosplay set.
This photo set mainly focuses on a cool, ethereal atmosphere, so we selected large areas of blue tulle for the set design, simulating depth and gradient layers similar to the sky under top lighting. The circular ring softlight at the top of the set perfectly illuminated the contours of the headpiece, creating a beautiful top-to-bottom harmony between the edge drapes and the suspended bird props. A wide aperture was used during shooting to naturally blur the background tulle, keeping the visual focal point firmly on the character.
Regarding the highlight of this styling, the wig and costume required significant preparation time beforehand. The wig features long straight black hair with iconic bright pinkish-red highlights, with red locks at the sideburns being particularly eye-catching. To keep the hair from appearing stiff, the bangs and top sides were carefully styled with flowing curves and texture, allowing the layered hair colors to present a natural quality under indoor lighting. For makeup, to align with the character's heterochromia setting, I chose bright, translucent light blue contact lenses, slightly elongating the eyeliner to enlarge the eyes, and applied eyelashes meticulously to achieve a gaze that is both lively and distant. The base makeup was kept matte and fair, while a peach-colored lip tint was swept across the lips to avoid over-saturation that might spoil the overall ethereal vibe.
The main outfit features a strapless white-and-blue color-blocked design, adorned above the chest with an exquisite gold metal frame and a dark blue cross-flower gem. The shoulders feature large white wing-shaped decorations, which, paired with the huge white wing headpiece behind the head, give the entire styling rich wing elements. When wearing, care must be taken at the connections between these wing pieces and the headpiece to prevent tilting. The thin white ribbon and strap design around the neck add layers to an otherwise plain neckline, which, combined with the white straps at the wrists, creates a harmonious visual tension.
During the actual shoot, commanding this outfit required finding a good center of balance, especially maintaining stability with the weight of the headpiece. I tried adding several sets of interactive poses with white doves before the camera—such as resting a bird in my palm or tilting my body slightly in a listening stance—hoping to showcase the character's elegant yet elusive aura. Composition in the final photos leaned toward close-ups and medium shots, relying not on complex post-processing special effects, but rather on solid props, garment fabric textures, and lighting setup to carry the visuals. When sorting through the photos, I deliberately kept the suspended bird props and solid blue backdrop in frame to ensure a highly unified style across the set.
This was a deeply immersive photoshoot process. The costume's airy texture, wig coloration, and makeup coordination all met my expectations in front of the lens. As long as every styling detail is treated with dedication, 2D character designs can be faithfully brought to life. I enjoy this feeling of being immersed in Roleplay, and I hope this photo set conveys my understanding of the dreamlike purity in this Genshin Impact character design.
