[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Touhou Project Meets Gesang Flower Season by Erhai Lake

Taking advantage of the Gesang blooming season in Dali, I completed this Touhou Project Reimu Hakurei Cosplay shoot by Erhai Lake. This shoot mainly took advantage of the strong evening side-backlight combined with windy weather along the lake, giving the fluttering red and white skirts a dynamic feel. The layered bell prop and colorful ribbons fluttering in the wind guided the viewer's gaze effectively, grounding the visual center of each frame. Because this was an outdoor location shoot with rapidly shifting light, I shot directly in RAW format paired with a wide aperture of f/2.8 and shutter speeds over 1/1000s, ensuring crisp captures of the moving skirt and hair while smoothly blurring the background flora and trees to emphasize the subject. The lace trim and red zigzag patterns on the outfit showed rich texture under outdoor sunlight. Dali's evening light was exceptionally soft, tracing a flattering golden contour along the face; for makeup, a slightly reddish blush kept the complexion radiant under natural light. This shoot was a classic, faithful recreation—blessed by the stunning scenery around Erhai Lake and Gesang flowers in peak bloom, getting great shots was much smoother than usual once camera angles and wind direction aligned to capture natural movement. The photographer was extremely patient throughout, taking multiple attempts to freeze the exact instant the wind caught the ribbons. Given the high contrast of backlit photography, post-processing preserved the tonal gradations of both sky and water while lifting facial shadows, keeping the subject clean and translucent against the bright background. We brought minimal props; the metallic sheen and wooden handle of the bell caught the sunlight beautifully, and using a wide-angle lens for close-ups with flowers in the foreground delivered striking visual impact. The primary goal of this set was to convey a natural, wind-swept ambiance. The outfit's fabric resisted harsh glare in the sun, holding sharp three-dimensional pleats while allowing fluid movement. As evening faded and the light dimmed, the water surface mirrored like glass, allowing us to capture several timeless reflection shots. Back at the guesthouse, printing a few instant photos added another nostalgic layer—even though instant film exposure gets tricky in fading light, that unpredictability lent a vintage charm, serving as a tangible keepsake of this Erhai journey.
