Does taking photos like this feel a bit too close? Close-up framing is actually an intense test of a cosplayer's hair, makeup, and expression control. For this Gongsun Li Floral Butterfly cosplay from Honor of Kings, multiple trial adjustments were made to the makeup specifically to hold up under such delicate close-ups. The base makeup pursued a clear, natural finish, and the blue contact lenses were undeniably the soul of the entire look—paired with meticulously blended eye makeup, they made the gaze appear lively, innocent, and bright. The subtle lower eyelid gradient helped shape the eye contours closer to the original character design, while individual cluster lashes were applied to enlarge the eyes naturally without looking artificial.

Styling the hair was equally delicate work. The light purplish-grey wig took hours to trim; blunt bangs needed subtly piecey layers to avoid looking stiff, and the sidelocks on both sides were calibrated to frame and soften facial contours. The bunny ears and blue rose hair accessories were the crowning glory of the look. To showcase the fluffy plush texture and the rich saturation of the rose petals, we had the photographer utilize soft, cool-toned lighting. The lighting angles required continuous fine-tuning—not only to sculpt dimensional facial features, but also to evoke that dreamy, ethereal anime atmosphere, complemented by a carefully selected grey-blue backdrop that wouldn't steal the spotlight.

The fabric of the white gloves was quite unique; resting my chin on my hands while keeping the frame clean meant engaging my arm muscles slightly to prevent messy, bunching wrinkles. Deep blue wide ribbons paired with refined white gloves created a beautiful color harmony across the upper bodice. For the lower half, pairing White stockings (pantyhose) with a dark skirt required careful attention when seated: keeping the spine straight and tilting the body slightly elongated the leg lines naturally, all while keeping the skirt smooth and crisp.

When the lens drew in close, there was admittedly a palpable sense of pressure. But the photographer was exceptionally professional, guiding me to relax my shoulders, lean forward slightly, and gaze straight into the camera. Resting semi-clenched fists under my chin might look effortless, but it actually required sustained, subtle tension in the arms to look poised and light rather than limp. Paired with a soft rim-backlight, facial contours and makeup textures popped wonderfully, rendering radiant catchlights in the eyes. In the final edits, the colors came out delightfully soft while authentic skin texture was cleanly preserved, avoiding any plastic over-smoothing.

Regarding the costume details, I paid special attention to the alignment of the neckline and shoulder straps to ensure they looked pristine even in natural, relaxed poses. The venue was somewhat confined, yet the clean background effectively elevated the subject, focusing all visual attention onto subtle expressions and costume nuances. The overarching vision was to convey a serene, dreamy ambiance with a touch of lively sweetness. From hair and makeup to lighting, every single step demanded careful confirmation to bring the envisioned image flawlessly to life.
