Putting on this red qipao to shoot Gongsun Li Cosplay is indeed just like everyone said—a natural flow within my comfort zone. The character's design itself perfectly fits Chinese aesthetics, so there's no need to intentionally force difficult poses. Even if it's just tilting slightly while holding an oil-paper umbrella, or leaning against the corridor railing for a gentle glance, that sense of agility and gentleness can be conveyed through the frame. I'm personally quite satisfied with the accurate restoration of details, from the orange-pink gradient of the wig and the plush texture of the rabbit ears to the golden bracers and the bowknot at the waist.
The tailoring of this Qipao cosplay outfit is very slim-fit, but it doesn't restrict movement at all. During the outdoor shoot, after walking a few rounds around the bamboo forest and rockeries, the dynamic effect of the skirt hem and ribbons turned out even more vivid than forced poses. The photographer's lighting setup was very soft, comfortably blending my skin tone with the warm colors of the costume. Especially in the shot holding the red umbrella, the atmosphere of rain streaks and mist was just perfect.
As a cosplay project, we try our best to add some small expressions from our own perspective on top of replicating the character, such as the strength used when holding props or the control of our gaze. These subtle touches give the whole set of photos more breathing room. Choosing a classical garden for this shoot added a lot of value, requiring no excessive editing. The whole process was simply about enjoying and feeling the character. I hope this set of Ancient style photography allows everyone to see Gongsun Li's quiet and gentle side, in addition to her usual agility, perfectly reflecting her unique Chinese style styling.
