This time, I challenged the "Classic of Mountains and Seas fanon" theme for Dolia from Honor of Kings, positioning her as a Phantasmal Pearl mermaid. The overall styling blends xianxia elements onto the foundation of a traditional style Hanfu. The hairstyle features long curly hair with light purple highlights, paired with light blue colored contact lenses, attempting to more accurately capture the agility and purity of the mermaid. The material of the top uses sheer gauze with a pearlescent sheen, paired with a color-blocking of mint green and lotus root pink. The skirt hem is made into a water-blue gradient, which perfectly fits the visual experience of an underwater wonderland. To restore the mermaid traits from the fanon theme, a large number of artificial lotuses and pink fallen petals were prepared as props, along with a bamboo-and-wood base that carries a misty atmosphere.
The shooting day was actually very physically exhausting. The lower half of the skirt hem was completely submerged in water, and every time the position was adjusted, the soaked gauze and wig had to be restyled. However, seeing the final photos where the shimmering light reflects at the bottom of the water and the sheer gauze flows along with the ripples, I feel that all the effort was completely worth it. There is a set of poses reaching out and opening hands toward the camera, including a side glance looking back and a frozen moment leaning on the edge of the bamboo and wood; every single shot showcases the otherworldly spirit of the Phantasmal Pearl. This fanon set mainly revolves around the concept of "sincerity," requiring no redundant or complex elements, using real water scenes and natural states to present the character's temperament. If I have the energy in the future, I will take this look for an outdoor shoot again.
