This time I shot the official photos for my beloved Xiao, featuring a combat-state styling, and specially selected a Chinese garden as the outdoor location. The lines of the red-lacquered wooden windows and ancient pavilions fit the character's temperament perfectly. Natural light plus some backlighting lens flare effects were used during the shoot to give the frame a touch of Xianxia vibe. The makeup emphasized the contours of the eyebrows and eyes, keeping it clean and sharp without excessive heavy colors. Coordinated with the blue-green gradient wig and the stray hairs on the forehead, I wanted to stay close to the character's cold-faced yet internally decisive feel.
The costume is custom-made, featuring a white sleeveless top paired with asymmetrical pauldrons and detached sleeve covers. The vine tattoo on the left arm was also hand-painted, while the golden lines on the pants and the purple belt at the waist prevented the overall layering from looking too plain. The boots are all-black with platform soles, adorned with metal fasteners on the surface, carrying a distinct weight when walking. In terms of props, the black-and-gold color-coded mechanical claw gauntlet and the polearm are both highly textured. When holding them, the actions needed a well-coordinated angle, and I adjusted my posture several times during the shoot to avoid blocking my face or ruining the overall silhouette.
The shots I am most satisfied with are the compositions sitting in the pavilion—relaxed yet with an on-point gaze—as well as the standing close-up feature with the weapon, where the light and shadow striking my body looked exceptionally translucent. Wearing this outfit is actually quite particular; the tightness of the waistband and shoulder straps must be just right, otherwise it would tightly constrict and feel uncomfortable during movement. Fortunately, the final presentation effect turned out great. The photographer was highly professional throughout, using backlighting to create a Tyndall effect vibe, and post-processing also preserved plenty of skin texture without over-smoothing. This shooting experience was quite fulfilling, and I hope to convey that cold, detached yet reliable vibe of the character through this Chinese-style cosplay and ancient style photography creation.
