[Antiquarian Cosplay] Identity V: Chinese-Style Duo Under Lanterns of the Ancient Pavilion

This shoot features official photosets of the Antiquarian and Painter from Identity V. Choosing this ancient-style architecture stage for our location was ideal, as the staggered traditional lanterns and heavy wooden beams visually materialize the game's mysterious Eastern classical atmosphere. Both the color palette and spatial feeling perfectly fit the characters' world.

Regarding the costume, the sapphire blue robe for this Antiquarian cosplay boasts an exceptionally refined texture, adorned with intricate gold dragon and cloud embroidery. The frog buttons and gold trim around the collar balance the grounded composure of a traditional hero with scholarly elegance. However, the outfit is quite thick with multiple inner layers; combined with cooling gear, a half-day of intense shooting felt rather stuffy. Yet the instant I put it on, the immersive character connection rushed right in. Securing the hair accessories and small black hat also required extra effort, and I carefully controlled my head movements to keep the cap from shifting during poses.

For props, we prepared several calligraphy brushes, a wooden scroll, and a bamboo flute in advance. Holding these brushes and scrolls, I avoided forced or artificial poses, opting instead to channel the effortless composure of a character going about their duties. Moments like pausing brush in hand to ponder, or crossing arms with the brush held horizontally across the chest, aimed to convey a strategic, calculating aura. The bamboo flute in my partner's hands—reflecting her Painter cosplay elements—served as a wonderful accent, pairing seamlessly with my brush and scroll as if the two of us were about to engage in a scholarly dialogue of ink and music.

The atmosphere elevated these photos significantly for Chinese-style photography. Staggered traditional lanterns of varying sizes lined the background, their red tassels catching the light with rich texture. The photographer purposefully used low-angle shots and a wide aperture to create a dreamy, blurred bokeh effect across the lanterns and timber structures behind us. In the final duo photo, I stood behind her with my hand resting on the chair back; the subtle white stocking and tall boot details caught the light brilliantly, blending with natural lens flare to infuse the frame with cinematic storytelling.

Seamless chemistry in our duo interaction was key to the final output. Whether unrolling the scroll together or pairing a seated angle with a downward glance, missing the eye contact would have made the image look stiff. Breezes occasionally swept through the courtyard, loosening our grip on the scroll, but the photographer captured the exact moment the paper unspooled in the wind, bringing vibrant vitality to the shot. Despite the fatigue of constantly refining poses and prop angles, seeing the harmonious interplay of warm and cool light alongside the serene, reverent mood made the entire experience deeply rewarding. This work stands as a vivid exploration of the characters' inner spirit through performance and visual craft.
