The moment I put on this outfit from the Illusion series and stood in front of the red curtain, I felt as if I was truly possessed by Mary. This costume has so many details—the metallic texture of the crown, the beaded strings and lace layers at the collar, and that iconic black veil—every single piece works to restore the character's "scarlet nobility" temperament. The makeup artist, Teacher Hun'an, was incredibly thoughtful. The eye makeup deepened the sense of profundity, which, combined with the cool white base and dark red lip color, instantly maxed out that atmosphere of being both proud and full of brokenness.
The lighting for this shoot was specially designed by the photographer, Teacher Motang. The side-backlight made the reflections on the crown and neck ornaments exceptionally bright. Combined with the drifting smoke and red petal special effects added in post-processing, it perfectly echoed that line in the copy: "a rose dyed red by blood." In fact, the skirt hem and cloak of this outfit are extremely heavy, so I had to control the angle carefully when turning around, otherwise it could easily look messy. However, the final results pleasantly surprised me, especially that moment of looking back in the photo, where a hint of coldness and loneliness lingers in my gaze.
This combination of Gothic style and gorgeous retro aesthetic truly tests the post-processing balance of color, light, and shadow. Teacher Motang controlled the saturation of the red perfectly—neither too glaring nor losing that suffocating sense of oppression. As a veteran player of Identity V, being able to interpret the Bloody Queen in my own way for this piece of Cosplay photography is incredibly satisfying. I hope everyone can feel that quiet yet dangerous beauty in this set of works, just like a scarlet rose blooming slowly in the dark night of Europa.
