This set of Identity V Barmaid cosplay main photos was saved from before, and organizing them today is a great chance to chat with everyone about the details of that Outdoor cosplay. The location was purposely chosen to be a garden with Chinese-style corridors and ponds, because I wanted to try combining the character's tipsy casualness with a refreshing summer feel. This mint-green off-the-shoulder long sleeve paired with white shorts looked particularly lightweight by the lush water's edge, and the wide-brimmed straw hat is the finishing touch of the entire styling, which can block the sun and add a lazy vacation atmosphere to the frame.
Regarding the styling details, the wig intentionally kept a slightly curled arc without being combed too flat against the scalp, which, when paired with the straw hat, makes the hair volume look more natural and fits the character's slightly fluffy texture. On the makeup front, heavy eyeshadow was avoided, emphasizing instead a clear base makeup and a touch of natural blush, echoing the Barmaid's signature tipsy state. As for props, the small blue cup and the leafy branch in my hand were casually matched by myself; to avoid making hand movements look empty, such small props are particularly useful during shooting, allowing the character to interact with the surrounding waterscape.
The lighting on the day of the shoot was relatively strong, so most of the time was spent looking for diffuse light under the tree shade. The pose in the first picture is sitting on a large rock by the water; I purposely raised my right hand to toss out a prop, with the goal of making the composition more tense while naturally extending the leg lines through the action. Wearing high heels, slightly adjusting the sitting posture can make the legs look slender, and the photographer framed from a low angle on the side-rear, perfectly avoiding the crowd in the background and leaving only pavilions, water ripples, and lush greenery. The second picture is the static version with the action reined in, holding the branch with both arms and gazing at the water surface, which presents a feeling of quiet daydreaming. Both states are actually meant to showcase the multifaceted nature of the character's personality, where extroversion and introversion coexist.
Outdoor cosplay is actually quite a test of physical strength, especially in summer in places with many plants, where mosquitoes and high temperatures are both challenges. To ensure long-lasting makeup, loose powder and a portable mini fan are essentials. Moreover, safety must be paid attention to when shooting by the water; rocks can be slippery, and stepping on them in high heels requires extreme caution, preferably with someone assisting nearby. When changing poses, I repeatedly checked my center of gravity, after all, balancing beauty and personal safety is a must. The fabric of this outfit is relatively lightweight, so when walking or turning, the skirt hem and cuffs have a very natural fluttering feel; if it were a video shoot, the dynamic effect should be even more vivid than static photos.
Overall, this Barmaid cosplay attempt gave me a new understanding of interpreting characters with this kind of outdoor light-vacation style. No complicated indoor studio shoots are needed, nor is there any need to deliberately pile up special effects; by making good use of natural light and real waterscapes, one can restore that free-spirited yet slightly dreamy temperament of the character. With the backlog of photos now posted, I will continue to polish new stylings and shooting plans moving forward, hoping to bring more characters of different styles to everyone.
