[Shenhe Cosplay] Night Tour of Ancient Architecture, the Chivalrous Style of Frost and Red Ropes

This set of Shenhe photos was completed in a large ancient style night scene, which heavily tested the on-site light and shadow coordination as well as movement tension.

Let's talk about the costume first; the diversity of materials in this outfit is the biggest highlight. The black and white top features a layered design, with a faux-satin fabric that carries a silky luster on the outside. My favorite part is the black semi-transparent splicing at the abdomen, which has a totem print resembling wash-and-ink vines. This semi-sheer design looks exceptionally textured under the night flash, while also beautifully showcasing body proportions. The lower half is a form-fitting black-to-blue gradient material, similar to stockings or high-elasticity sports fabric. It reflects light beautifully under illumination, contouring the legs without restricting movement too much. The layered blue and white water sleeves on the arms are the soul of the look, incredibly flowing when swung, and their lightweight nature prevents them from looking too cumbersome, making them perfect for showcasing the character's agile combat posture. The规律 embellishment of the red ropes is just right—from the hair accessories to the sides of the ears, and then to the waist ties, they prevent the primary black, white, and blue color scheme from looking too cold, adding a few touches of vitality instead.

In terms of props, I specially replicated Shenhe's signature spear prop this time. The shaft features a dark gradient lacquer finish, and the spearhead is a multi-faceted ice blue, giving off an irregular sharpness under the night lighting. Aside from the long pole weapon that everyone sees at first glance, the cyan-fluorescing holographic small screen prop in the picture is also very interesting. It doesn't belong to conventional combat weapons, but holding it in the dark night, combined with an overall cold expression, actually creates a reclusive sci-fi feel or a sense of contrast akin to an immortal's magical tool, giving the entire set a bit more narrative depth.

For the pose design this time, my personal favorite is the single-leg standing balance posture in Picture 1. This stance not only tests core strength but also highlights the long legs and the overall contrast. Because the center of gravity shifted, the upturned eaves of the ancient architecture in the background happened to form a diagonal echo with my body contour. Then there is the hand gesture in Picture 4, similar to forming hand seals or casting immortal magic; paired with a slightly raised chin and slightly spaced-out eyes, it perfectly matches the character's cool and confident aura. When holding the cyan small screen in Picture 6, there was actually a small design choice: I intended to use it like a "magical talisman," allowing even a static standing pose to be full of narrative guidance.

The shooting location for this set of photos was chosen in front of a classical pavilion at night, with special thanks to photography teacher Shi Wang. The hardest part of night portrait photography is balancing the light—if it's too bright, the warm colors of the background get washed out; if it's too dark, the subject loses depth. Teacher Shi Wang adopted a very ingenious dual-lighting scheme: a softbox at the front-side gave the subject a cool white face and body contour, making the skin look fair and translucent, while the orange light from the ancient architecture behind served as ambient light, casting a soft golden rim on the hair and clothing edges, creating a strong yet harmonious contrast between warm and cool tones.

The ground that night was wet, and the water-logged cobblestone path reflected the golden lights of the architecture. This reflection visually added depth of field and a sense of spatial depth to the frame, turning the originally monotonous ground into another reflective medium. During the shoot, we intentionally adjusted to a low camera position, using a low angle to exaggerate the length of the legs while also completely incorporating the background roof and reflections into the frame. The post-processing stage mostly involved fine-tuning without excessive HDR, only slightly darkening the vignettes around the edges to let the viewer's focus concentrate more on the character. The overall color grading retained the warm-cool contrast, reinforcing a cool, deep, and aloof temperament.

As an Anime-style photography project outdoors, I gained a lot from it. Bringing out a personality that aligns with the Genshin Impact character's setting doesn't just rely on replicating the costume, makeup, and props; it requires using body language and evoking the gaze to transmit the character's soul. This time, I tried expressions with several different emotions. Whether it was the haughty pride of holding the spear prop or the quiet silence of looking down to tidy the lapel, all brought out the structural integrity of Shenhe as a reclusive swordsman. Looking at the final photos, I feel that all the freezing of poses in the night wind and the constant friction of adjusting the lights were worth it.
