[Scarlet Devil Mansion cosplay] Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Remake: Ten Years of Touhou Nostalgia Re-experienced

Boss, the game you played 24 years ago got a remake! This wave of nostalgic memories hit so suddenly. The group shoot photos from three years ago had been sitting untouched in my cloud drive, so taking advantage of the remake launch felt like the perfect occasion to show them off.

As ten-year Touhou Project veteran fans, we never imagined Touhou would not only get a remake but also come to Nintendo Switch, hahahahaha. Even after so many years, recalling how we discussed the details of this Scarlet Devil Mansion cosplay group shoot still makes my blood boil with enthusiasm. Back then, striving for perfect restoration accuracy, we spent nearly a month in total preparation. During early location scouting, we specifically selected a manor estate preserving Victorian-style western building architecture. The moment everyone walked in, they were captivated by the walls filled with gracefully arranged antique clocks and quaint wooden cabinets—it was practically a scene tailor-made for the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

To suit the characters, we brought deep blue crystal goblets, silver antique candlesticks, and even several old hardbound foreign books. With the table covered in gorgeous drinkware alongside delicate lace tablecloths, the atmosphere was instantly dialed up to the max. Makeup and styling that day lasted from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM without anyone slacking off for a moment. The red-haired character's little demon wings and accessories were installed and removed repeatedly, just to ensure they stayed fixed to the wig without looking awkward. The partner in charge of the black-and-white maid outfit spent over ten minutes in front of the full-length mirror refining skirt ruffles and Maid black silk stockings pairing details, making the entire look appear refined and sharp.

The shooting process was actually much more physically demanding than imagined, especially for action sequences like holding wine goblets and pouring wine from bottles. We repeatedly adjusted positions and arm angles just to appear effortless, natural, and fluid on camera. The photographer, Xigua🍉, was extremely professional in handling light and shadow; he used plenty of warm yellow side-backlighting to outline character silhouettes, capturing stunning hair reflections on silver-white short hair and glass refractions. This color grading with a retro cinematic feel cast a hazy and warm time filter over the entire composition, granting every character incredible texture.

Looking back now at these photos from three years ago—moments when everyone gathered around the round table reading books or sat before the piano taking pictures—even though everyone's creative styles and aesthetics have evolved, that passion for cosplay and character portrayal still flows through our veins. This photo set is not merely a work, but a record of time passed. The moment I saw news of the remake for Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, memories of everything in the Scarlet Devil Mansion came rushing back, completely stirring my veteran fan DNA. Though we don't know when Phantasmagoria of Flower View might get remake news, as long as this passion remains, our generation of veteran players will continue meeting across various wonderful scenes, capturing our own Gensokyo moments through camera lenses.
