When shooting this Helektra cosplay set, what attracted me most was how to balance the paradoxical coexistence of her cool detachment and her unspoken inner strength. From pre-production styling to the final click of the shutter, the entire journey was an exercise in extreme attention to detail and a tangible recreation of the character's inner world in this Game cosplay.
First, let's talk about the design details of the costume. The white thorn-like headpiece is one of my favorite elements—crafted from finely sculpted lightweight materials, it achieves a sharp, bone-like visual texture that distinctly accentuates the sharpness of an oceanic swordswoman. The red-and-white color-blocked thorn bow tie at the neckline, inlaid with a ruby-like teardrop ornament in the center, serves as the absolute visual focal point of the chest. The black semi-sheer tulle sleeves on the arms are the soul of the outfit; adorned with subtle jacquard patterns, whether rolled up or draping naturally, they create an exquisite flowing drape with every movement, giving the upper body rich dimensional layers. The black, white, and red tri-color paneled skirt has immense volume; when walking or seated, the red ribbons along the hem flare naturally, exuding an inherent fractured aesthetic.
What amazed me most this time was also the styling of the legs. Black vine-patterned totem tights paired with spiked high-heeled ankle boots not only elongated body proportions, but also greatly intensified the character's offensive aura in this Black stockings cosplay. To capture the unique luster of the patterns on the stockings, the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted the lighting angles to ensure the dark patterns remained distinct without harsh glare ruining the semi-sheer texture of the black fabric.
Speaking of the massive weapon, a bright red blade is embedded into a pure white skeletal frame, creating an exaggerated silhouette full of dramatic tension. Because the weapon is large with a forward-heavy center of gravity, gripping and posing with it required conscious wrist control. The sword-slashing and bow-holding poses in Photos 3 and 6 demanded significant core strength to keep the body fluidly extended while maintaining the weapon's tilt angle; fortunately, the dynamic tension in the final photos matched my vision perfectly.
For this shoot, we also carefully designed two completely different atmospheric sets. Photos 1, 3, 4, and 6 were shot against a deep blue and purple dark-toned set, featuring giant purple blossoms, fluorescent green jellyfish-like accents, and floor-reflective water effects that perfectly evoked a mysterious, weightless sense reminiscent of the deep sea or an alien cavern in Omphalos, matching her "oceanic swordswoman" lore seamlessly. Photos 2 and 5 switched to a bright indoor studio set: pure white Roman pillars, billowing white sheer drapes, clusters of white roses and pastel flowers, and even a white grand piano prop. In this purely tranquil setting, the imagery no longer emanated combative coldness, but rather a soft, melancholic introspection. Spanning these two distinct sets beautifully showcased the character's multifaceted nature in Honkai: Star Rail.
Echoing that quote from the post—"Swordswoman of the ocean, why are you silent, and for what do you sing?"—I constantly contemplated her gaze during the shoot. She is not a fierce battle machine consumed by hostility; her silence stems from prolonged solitude, while her song might be her only way of expression. Thus, throughout this set, you can see moments of focused combat wielding the weapon, as well as moments of closing my eyes leaning by a table or casually sitting on the carpet lost in thought. Through this blend of motion and stillness, I preferred to convey her piercing, evocative vitality.
May the next feast never end. The seamless cooperation of photography, props, and makeup gave this character a vibrant, breathing presence within these frames. The overall experience was exhilarating, achieving a high degree of completeness in both costume texture and scenic integration for this Helektra cosplay in Honkai: Star Rail.
