[Helektra Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Exotic Phantom

Putting together this costume's contrasting colors with the long polearm prop took considerable effort to fine-tune. In the photos, the cool blue-purple ambient lighting clashes dramatically with the red long shaft weapon in my hand, yielding a striking visual dynamic that far exceeded my initial expectations.

The highlights of this outfit lie in its overall color-blocking. The upper body features dark blue and black spliced materials, paired with cutout chest tailoring that visually elongates body proportions while leaving ample room for black shoulder totem tattoo stickers. Custom-designed specifically for her character setting, the tattoo stickers needed to blend naturally into skin tone to convey that melee fighter power. I wore long black gloves on both arms, adding a segmented red asymmetrical gauntlet on my right hand to create a stable anchor point when wielding the weapon.

The skirt features asymmetrical cuts with purplish-red color blocks embedded in dark fabric, echoing the purple highlights in my hair. For hair styling, I kept a black base while adding purplish-red highlights to give fluffy volume extra layered depth. Hair accessory details were equally refined: a sharp white bone/shell-textured headpiece on the left sculpted my side profile, while a purple cross clip on the right provided a visual anchor, balancing detail weight across both sides of the head.

The polearm prop was the trickiest element. For easy transport, we split the shaft into three connectable sections, concealing joint seams meticulously. Painted in a dark red gradient with unique shaping on the butt-end, it stands as a structured, layered piece rather than a simple staff. Adapting my grip points beforehand allowed me to strike weapon poses that looked effortlessly tense during shooting.

Lighting for the shoot featured cool blue-purple ambient environments paired with white background drapery and floating transparent bubbles, creating an otherworldly, dreamlike space. Hard main strobes carved out facial bone structure while highlighting subtle fabric patterns and reflective materials. Fiber optic lights resembling star trails adorned the tulle, scattering light spots behind me to match the cosmic, otherworldly mystery inherent to her character and setting.

For makeup, I opted for sharp eye details—slightly upturned eyeliner paired with light-colored contact lenses and crystal teardrop motifs beneath the eyes for a cold, distant expression. White dot markings on my cheek referenced original character art, boosting recognition significantly.

Throughout Fantasy photography, I learned that embodying her aura required cold, sharp gazes and open shoulder-neck lines rather than forced combat poses. As translucent bubbles drifted past my face, slightly low-angle framing paired with the red shaft formed crisp diagonal lines that built incredible visual tension. Managing color harmony across deep blue, purplish-red, white, and black under cool lighting tested the photographer's palette mastery in lighting and post-processing.

The shoot took several hours, mostly spent adjusting prop balance and skirt draping. Outfits with spliced fabrics and flowing ribbons look gorgeous on camera, but walking or changing poses behind the scenes meant constantly smoothing the skirt to keep frames clean. Seeing the cool-toned atmosphere blend seamlessly with her inherent fantasy essence made every bit of effort worth it.
