Cosplaying Robin from "Honkai: Star Rail", what gave me the most trouble during early preparation were those wings and the ring-shaped halo atop the head. The layers of the wig needed braiding and curling to achieve that fluffy and spirited effect. To tell the truth, after adding the hair accessories and that curved moon-shaped halo, extra attention was needed for center of gravity control, so it wouldn't shift during filming. Regarding makeup, to be close to the character's ethereal sense, I focused on treating the blue-green pupil color and the transition of slightly red smudging under the eyes, reducing heavy makeup sense as much as possible, applying base makeup very lightly, only preserving the skin's texture.
Clothing details are much richer than when seen from afar. The deep blue fabric is not a pure color; it carries a kind of texture like meteor sand, with very fine refractions under strong light. The pale purple small wings at the shoulders are of a translucent material, fixed around the collarbone, neither blocking the lens nor increasing layers. The waist design tailoring fits the body shape well; metal star pendants and pearls adopted a wrapping type hanging method, there will be slight swaying when walking. The large bows on the wrist and arm had a lot of presence, although large in volume, but luckily were of a soft material, not making the styling deform because of waving arms. The hem's piecing and tailoring layers are many, the star and moon patterns on it were embroidered using gold line, the pearl string stitching along the edge makes the entire styling look very 3D-textured.
In props, this staff's height and weight both needed adaptation. The top has a similar disc or clock design, surrounded by white wing plumes, showing a kind of music's rhythmic sense. When taking the staff, the wrist's exertion angle is very key, both appearing graceful and keeping the staff body vertical, not appearing clumsy. This time, choosing a piano and white openwork screen scene was exactly to objectify the "music" and "poetry" labels on the character. The piano keys were lit by light and shadow, forming an echo with the staff's elements.
When filming, the photographer gave me a group of biased cold-colored light; this blue-white基调 light, shadow, and my wig color merged just right. The first close-up utilized backlighting to outline the contour, making facial features appear soft; the second standing posture let the hem's length and leg lines appear more naturally long and slender. The entire piece maintained cold color cleanness and transparency, metal stars on the clothes would reflect fine starlight when backlighting.
After putting on this outfit, adjusting breathing, from eyes to posture, both need deliberate lightening and softening. I have always felt that good cosplay is not just restoration of outer form, but further lies in whether breathing can be conveyed through these subtle movements, light, and shadow. Being able to transmit this atmosphere sense through photos also makes me feel very satisfied about this attempt. Next, for a period of time, I should focus on retouching and organizing, striving to preserve this beautiful feeling.
