For this deep-red outfit of Houshou Marine, compared to traditional layering of fabric, what is actually harder to handle is its complex tailored proportions. The top features a high-saturation red sleeveless design with white paneling and gold trim at the collar, while the blue circular emblem on the chest serves as the visual focal point of the upper body. The most captivating design lies in the black translucent mesh splicing around the waist and abdomen, which places high demands on the wearer's midsection condition but also happens to form the outfit's most unique visual negative space. The red pleated skirt on the lower half comes with white edge stripes, paired with a broad brown leather belt with metallic eyelets that visually raises the waistline.
Putting on the wig took some time. The red bow hair accessories on both sides of the crown required repeated angle adjustments, combined with claw clips for the twin tails and the wig's smooth texture, to achieve a voluminous yet natural manga feel. The wig features a Red hair twin tails gradient transitioning from purplish-red to purplish-pink; this coloration bounces vividly under varying convention hall lights, perfectly matching the character's lively temperament. The makeup kept clean and crisp, complemented by distinct colored contacts to create a clear yet subtly cunning gaze.
On-site shooting took place in a very spacious indoor exhibition hall. Regularly arranged cool-toned ceiling lights created strong high-key reflections on the light-colored floor. Due to shallow depth of field, the background blurred completely into black, white, and gray color blocks, with other convention attendees dissolving into the background. Under these conditions, adjusting the camera aperture and light incidence angles allowed the red outfit and black tights to pop vividly in the frame, creating striking color contrast. Fill lighting from the photographer made skin tone appear exceptionally fair, which, paired with high-key cool white filter processing, perfectly captured Marine's lively yet slightly sultry charm on camera in these convention photos.
Across four distinct poses, I experimented with completely different body dynamics. In the seated shot on the floor, my legs stretched forward naturally and crossed, the black stockings exhibiting a fine dark luster under the cool white light, with the lace trim resting right against the thighs to create a stark contrast between heavy platform boots and slender legs. In the double-knee kneeling shot striking a V-sign, leaning slightly forward accentuated the interaction between the sleeveless top and white gloves. Meanwhile, the single-knee kneel with one hand touching the back of my head used a languid posture to highlight waistlines and black stocking length proportions, crafting a confident and relaxed aura.
To be honest, these heavy black platform boots were quite heavy; walking around the convention hall for long made my ankles a bit sore, and while the mesh section of the costume was breathable, it still accumulated sweat easily. Yet every bit of physical exertion felt entirely worthwhile the moment I saw the shots in the viewfinder. The quality of this set energized my sorting and layout editing afterwards, as the clean background perfectly highlighted every character detail. This look offers immense creative potential in fabric luster and tailoring details. I'm also reflecting that if I could re-shoot this Houshou Marine cosplay in an outdoor setting with a sea breeze or an abandoned ship cabin in the future, it might ignite a completely different character charm than an indoor convention hall, while offering fellow fans more cosplay sharing ideas and photography reference.
