[Sparkle Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Convention Photos — An Honest Record of Being Sore All Over After the Event

Sore all over after the event, while sorting through these Honkai: Star Rail Sparkle cosplay convention photos, I felt like writing down some ramble notes to document the experience.

Here is today's submission—on-site convention photos taken at the recent Hangzhou Anime Convention. Just as the title says, now that I'm back home after the event, my whole body is basically in a completely limply collapsed state, especially my calves, inner thighs, and core muscles, which are intensely sore. But looking at these photos in the camera, I feel all the day's exertion was well worth it.

Let me talk about the styling first. A large expanse of high-saturation red serves as the primary base tone, paired with deep purple and black paneling to deliver strong visual impact. The sleeve design is exaggerated; those wide flowing sleeves blended with translucent pink chiffon create beautiful fluffiness and ethereal movement when walking or waving, though the trade-off is they easily snag on nearby people or booth edges, requiring me to tuck them in frequently while browsing the floor. The golden knot buckle at the waist, the red spherical pendant, and the tiny bells on the ankle straps are all iconic, recognizable details. Though the bells aren't loud, their occasional gentle jingle while walking nicely echoes the character's lively and playful personality. The translucent fan held in hand is another finishing touch—its red-and-black mask pattern elevates the overall mystery to another level.

Regarding makeup and hair, to stay true to the character's aura, focus was placed heavily on eye makeup—gently sweeping a hint of red blush at the outer eye corners paired with bright red lipstick to illuminate the face. Trimming the wig also took considerable effort; the length of bangs and sideburns required repeated adjustments before the convention, because messy hair or locks obstructing the eyes severely compromises photo quality. These details get magnified under wide-aperture lenses, making hair and makeup precision vital for achieving great shots.

The photo chosen for the cover was actually a candid snapshot captured by the photographer. Although a single-leg raised pose looks agile and light, maintaining balance is exceptionally difficult, especially while coordinating hand gestures with the fan. To find the most comfortable and visually striking angle, I tried repeatedly. Serving as the supporting leg, my left leg stood on the concrete convention floor for dozens of minutes, leaving my knee noticeably sore the next day. However, seeing the final image—with the curve formed by my raised arm and wide sleeves echoing the fan held in hand—made all that strain feel well worth it.

As a self-proclaimed older otaku, my mindset attending conventions now is far more composed than in earlier years. In younger days, I might have run my legs off rushing between halls or chased full gear sets and perfect social circles. Now, it feels more like a settled enjoyment. At this Hangzhou Anime Convention venue, I encountered many fellow fans cosplaying Honkai: Star Rail characters. While I couldn't immediately name every character, shouting out a friendly shoulder-tap greeting or identifying each other's accessories yielded an intensely real joy breaking through the 2D wall. I've come to realize that no matter one's age, as long as a passion for ACGN remains in your heart, putting on this costume and standing amidst the crowd instantly restores that immersive sensation.

The venue architecture also helped immensely; the high glass canopy provided exceptionally luminous natural light. Today's photos didn't rely heavily on post-production color grading—the original RAW light-and-shadow layers were already wonderfully comfortable, preserving authentic skin texture while making the red-and-black outfit look remarkably rich under natural light.

Finally, returning home to unfasten cumbersome accessories, clean hairspray out of my hair, wash off heavy base makeup, and apply a hydrating face mask made me feel truly re-grounded in real life. Although every part of my body is screaming with muscle soreness, these memories from the Hangzhou Anime Convention and these few convention photos are more than enough to keep me happy for a long time. I hope to wear this outfit again next time to experience this unique joy at even more conventions.
