It has been exactly one full year since my first attempt at cosplay on July 19th last year. Back then, I also cosplayed Caster Amiya, driven by a special affection for this Arknights character. Looking back at those photos today, I was undeniably green—the wig trim was awkward, my makeup skills were unrefined, and even putting in contact lenses took forever. Yet that passion and desire to faithfully recreate the character has continued straight through to today.
My hard work and growth over the past year feel exceptionally clear in this remake shoot. First, regarding makeup: I have learned to adjust eyeshadow layering and eyeliner curves based on specific character settings. This time, I deliberately selected bright blue contact lenses paired with subtle reddish-brown eyeshadow, making my gaze look more lively and fitting for a Caster character wielding Originium Arts. Furthermore, my foundation selection and concealer techniques have become far more adept, avoiding unnatural white casts or splotchiness, which naturally renders the photos far more realistic.
Looking next at the costume and accessories, Caster Amiya's outfit is rich in fine details. The layered brown petal choker around the neck, anchored by a bright green gem right in the center, serves as the visual focal point of the entire look. To ensure it stands upright without feeling heavy, I spent considerable effort researching inner linings and support structures. The bright blue trim on the jacket and the multi-layered garments were also finely tuned step-by-step. A year ago, I was completely clueless about these aspects, but now I know how to structure 3D ruffles and position zippers and metal buckles so they remain neatly tucked under the jacket, revealing only the intended layering. I also rebuilt the internal support for the long rabbit ears atop my head, giving them a fluffier feel and far better standing stability.
The wig is the soul of cosplay. Last year, when I first wore Caster Amiya's wig, I basically slipped it straight on, completely unsure how to trim the overly long bangs. After constantly experimenting with various wig stylings over the past year, I've developed my own understanding of trimming bangs and side strands. The result styled this time features a fluffy, natural crown with side strands framing my face contours just right, creating a clean, crisp silhouette alongside the ear accessories.
Beyond improvements in hair and makeup, my presence before the camera and interaction with photography sharing have transformed as well. When I first joined the community last year, I was extremely stiff before the camera, unsure where to place my hands or direct my gaze. This shoot felt vastly more composed; for instance, making a 'V' sign in the photo with rings decorating my fingers adds subtle textural detail to the frame. Presenting a character in this relaxed state endows the image with far more vitality than rigid, formulaic posing.
Engaging in cosplay is about much more than taking pretty pictures—it's about savoring the journey of transforming into a beloved character. Across this year of analyzing official art, researching garment fabrics, and honing makeup skills, my Cosplay insights expanded beyond technical gains to embrace patient persistence for what I love. Caster Amiya represents my initial passion; seeing her always reminds me of the pure courage that started it all.
