[Phrolova Cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Red and Black Intertwine, Deeply Dreaming Amidst the Crimson Spider Lilies

This time, I cosplayed Phrolova from Wuthering Waves, featuring a red-and-white-dominated outfit paired with light grayish-green long hair, creating a strong visual impact against the backdrop of the Spider Lily sea and the dark night. To recreate that combination of elegance and detachment, we put a lot of thought into the outfit, makeup, and props in the early stages, especially the red neck ornament and the wrapping bands on the arms, which had to maintain the styling's layering while ensuring they wouldn't easily fall off or deform during the shoot.

The shooting location was selected on a sloping hillside covered with dry grass in Chongqing, with no extra light source interference around. We deliberately waited until it was pitch black to set up the equipment, utilizing high-power spotlights for high-contrast lighting. The main light illuminated my face and torso from the side-front, supplemented by side-backlighting to outline my hair and shoulder lines. We also manually produced a large amount of white smoke on-site, which, combined with the unique moisture of a summer night, instantly gave the entire frame a hazy and profound cinematic quality, perfectly achieving our desired artistic conception of 'deep crimson on the other shore'.

The costume features an off-the-shoulder and collarbone-exposing design, which required me to keep my shoulders and back straight during every crouch, turn, and even when adjusting the flowers in my hands. There could not be a single hint of slouching, otherwise the silhouette of the outfit would look messy. To pursue the ultimate visual effect, we didn't use any collage panels; everything was single-shot DSLR photography. The final composition is very clean and sharp, beautifully setting off the main subject against the blurred foreground of red flower clusters.

For makeup and styling, we deliberately toned down overly sweet elements, emphasizing the depth of the eyeliner and the sharpness of the eyebrow shape to align with the character's core composure and cool detachment. Most of the photos capture subtle expressions of lowered eyes or calm gazes, without exaggerated emotional fluctuations, trying to fit the slightly quiet and melancholic theme of 'Deeply Dreaming'. One composition features a half-kneeling pose in the grass looking back, with the lens capturing my gaze through a stroke of blurred red foreground, bringing out a palpable mystery; another captures me lying face up among dry grass and red flowers, with long braids spread across the ground, gently holding a Spider Lily in my hand, presenting a nearly shattered serene beauty.

The entire shooting process lasted for several hours. Because I wore flats to step on the mud and dry grass, my feet were extremely sore, and I had to be careful not to step on and break the fresh flowers arranged on the ground. Poses holding the props could not look stiff; I had to repeatedly adjust the angle in my hand until it blended seamlessly with my body lines. Fortunately, the photographer was exceptionally patient, constantly adjusting the aperture and focal length, striving to find the best balance between depth of field and exposure.

This collaboration took place entirely in the dark of night. The surroundings were incredibly quiet, with only the camera's shutter clicks and the occasional rustle of grass in the wind. This immersive environment helped us quickly step into the character's zone. Phrolova herself is a highly contrasting existence, and through this set of photos taken in the flower sea, I also hoped to materialize this charm that transcends appearances. Although the process was challenging, this atmospheric final photoset makes all the hard work feel completely worth it. Being able to showcase another side of the character in this way is inherently a highly fulfilling thing in our Anime-style photography journey.
