This studio portrait session for Kurokawa Miu cosplay was full of challenges right from the makeup and styling. The ruffles and black lace edges of the light pink shirt required very meticulous arrangement to maintain a perfect three-dimensional sense in front of the lens. The black bow with pearl buttons on the chest, combined with a black turtleneck inner layer and a collar with metal chains, struck a balance between sweet and dark styles overall. To restore the character's hairstyle, I wore brown long curly twin tails and tied bows with black ribbons on both sides. The hair strands needed constant adjustment to maintain a light, flying feel.
In terms of makeup, the purple contact lenses were the finishing touch, matched with a reddish lip color and obvious blush, emphasizing the character's facial features. There are many details in the clothing; the black glossy long gloves and over-the-knee patent leather boots are the core elements of this styling. The patent leather material reflected light very obviously under the studio spotlight, which required me to pay special attention to angles when posing to avoid excessive reflection affecting the picture texture. Regarding the inner layer, the black turtleneck base formed a sharp contrast with the neckline of the pink shirt. This color combination not only highlighted the sense of layering but also made the overall visual center more concentrated.
When shooting the first photo, I tried lifting the pleated skirt hem with one hand and lightly holding the side of my face with the other, letting the twin tails float naturally, and the photographer captured this dynamic moment. The second photo is a forward-leaning standing pose, with the body tilted and one hand behind the head, showing a slightly aggressive playfulness. In the third photo, I sat on a white cylindrical prop with my legs apart; this sitting posture can well showcase the layers of the black pleated skirt and the extension sense of the patent leather boots. Because the skirt hem is short, care must be taken to prevent exposure when sitting, while also keeping the leg lines stretched. The glossy material of the patent leather boots is more prone to creases in the sitting position, requiring constant adjustment of the calf muscle tension to make the leg lines look smoother.
The accessories of the overall styling are quite heavy, especially the metal chains and platform lace-up boots, making long-term shooting a big test of physical strength. The inside of the patent leather gloves easily sweats, and they need to be handled carefully when taking them off. The fit of the pink shirt is relatively loose; to accentuate the waistline, I used a black belt to cinch it, and the metal buckle of the belt happened to serve as an embellishment. Although I tried my best to restore the character's temperament, everyone's understanding of the setting differs. If anything doesn't meet expectations, I apologize for any OOC in advance. This outfit has a strong sense of layering, and the visual impact of the pink-black color blocking is huge. Paired with the white studio background, it instead makes the main character stand out more. During shooting, the lighting mainly came from the side, nicely outlining the facial contours and the material texture of the clothing. Jirai-kei style outfits often require more patience to adjust in details, from the direction of the hair strands to the creases of the gloves, every place needs careful grooming. In terms of prop selection, the pure white cylinder not only does not steal the spotlight, but also well sets off the visual weight of the black clothing. I hope in future shoots, I can continue to try more roles of different styles.
