[Takanashi Rikka Cosplay] Purple Light and Shadow Moments of the Eye Patch and Blue-Black Dress - Image 2

Changing into this blue and black dress, paired with the iconic white eye patch, and shooting in a pure purple studio backdrop lets me feel the styling tension of this anime character. The entire outfit has many layers stacked in design, from the white lace trim at the cuffs to the lace edge of the skirt hem, capturing a high-quality texture in every detail of this Anime-style fashion look.

The selected studio portrait scene this time belongs to a typical solid color background shoot. Purple happens to form a complementary color system with the blue and black of the costume, making it highly eye-catching visually. The lighting in the studio was processed very cleanly; side backlighting hit the hair and cuffs, outlining a sharp silhouette and preventing the subject from blending together due to the purple absorbing light. Two different stylings were attempted during the shoot: the locked gaze in a standing state, with the right hand making the iconic gesture, the left foot slightly bent resting on a white cylindrical platform, and the removed black platform shoes placed right by the foot, carrying a playful vibe of being ready to battle at any moment; meanwhile, the kneeling posture of the second shot features putting back on the black block-heeled vintage leather shoes, adjusting the tilt angle of the upper body to lean slightly forward to match that unique, confident smile.

The tailoring of this dress itself is very suitable for girls with smaller body proportions. The vest of the upper body beautifully tightens the waist, while the high-waisted skirt hem achieves the visual effect of elongating the legs. Paired with black over-the-knee socks and platform block-heeled leather shoes, it guarantees a certain height-increasing effect without making the figure look bloated. During the shoot, I quite liked this collision of large color blocks: the deep blue outerwear, the black lining and socks, and the white lace and sleeves, presenting a very clean and premium feel in front of the purple-pink background wall.

The photographer's pacing for candid capturing was controlled very well. In freezing key movements, there wasn't an over-demanding enforcement of a 100% rigid posture, but rather capturing the most graceful moments within natural and relaxed movements. For example, the kneeling posture on the high platform drove the rise and fall of the shawl through the forward lean of the body, giving the originally static frame a trend of extending forward. The eye patch and the bow on the hair also maintained clear textures under the intense purple light and shadow. Especially the strap of the eye patch; a minor adjustment allows it to perfectly fit the face shape without leaving marks around the eye area. The ahoge hair strand on the hairstyle is an absolute focus; to maintain its shape, I would reinforce it slightly with hairspray during shooting breaks.

Many times, to shoot this Eye patch girl well, it requires not only solid clothing and props but moreover the body adapting to the character's temperament. Standing straight requires a confident pride, while lowering the head or turning sideways needs a touch of a maiden's coy playfulness. This kind of gap contrast in personality is particularly apparent in this character. In the studio, although the purple background is beautiful, it can easily eat up the details on the edges of the clothes. Therefore, the photographer's lighting setup becomes exceptionally important. The lighting for this shoot leaned toward a soft and uniform layout without harsh light/shadow boundaries, showcasing the folds of the skirt hem and the textures of the top very minutely. The white cylindrical platform was also an excellent helper prop; besides providing a standing pivot, the light striking it formed a natural reflector for the lower body, brightening the overall color tone of the legs and making the details of the black stockings even richer.

As the shoot deepened, I became more and more relaxed. The photographer's encouragement or the click of the camera shutter could quickly get me into character. I didn't intentionally pursue a specific cute trait, but simply performed according to the character's own personality, which instead made the resulting effect look more natural. Looking at the lace along the clothing edge and the complete styling in the final photos, this Cosplay photoshoot was prepared quite sufficiently. Once the final images came out, that sense of hidden emotion behind the eye patch also emerged, leaving me highly satisfied overall.
