In terms of accessories, wardrobe, and props, to align with the character's demeanor for this Grinning Professor cosplay, we selected this high-gloss vinyl bodysuit paired with her iconic oversized red bow tie. The blonde wig styling required clear layering, appearing richly dimensional when combined with the rabbit ears and halo ornament overhead. To prevent the headpiece from feeling overly cumbersome, we used lightweight internal bracket supports while securing the bangs firmly with bobby pins, ensuring that throughout various head tilts and turns, the hair and headwear maintained structural integrity. The black jacket was added later as a layering prop, worn loosely half-draped over the shoulders or lightly held with one hand to evoke a languid, unconstrained attitude.
On the day of the shoot, lighting conditions were quite delicate, as vinyl materials easily produce blown-out specular highlights or harsh dead blacks. After extensive discussions with the photographer, we decided to use warm yellow ambient lighting to emphasize rim contours while allowing gorgeous specular highlights across the vinyl surface. This preserved the tailoring details of the garment without making the subject appear overly shiny. The warm light from the vintage liquor cabinet was particularly suited for patent leather, giving the garment's texture a remarkably translucent appearance on camera. Combined with the wooden bar counter textures and glass bottle reflections, the palette became rich yet unified.
For posing and posture, I deliberately chose relaxed, casual stances like cross-legged sitting and crossed-leg seated positions, utilizing the cane held horizontally across the body or as a physical support to flatteringly accentuate waist contours and leg lines in this bodysuit. The Black tights outfit paired with patent leather created fantastic visual tension through textural contrast before the lens. I made several adjustments while crossing my legs to ensure no awkward creases formed along the seams between the tights and the vinyl, while preserving an elongated leg line. Flipping hair and lightly touching my lips with fingers were designed to add mystery and engagement, making the viewer feel as though the character is conversing with them rather than merely standing there.
For makeup, the focus was placed on the eyes and lips. Since the red bow tie provided an intense pop of color, the eye makeup needed to be subtly subdued to cultivate that mysterious, languid vibe fitting the Grinning Professor's casual yet commanding personality. I chose a nude-toned blush and an earthy terracotta lip glaze, ensuring they wouldn't overpower the bow tie while keeping the overall face clean and refined. Subtle shimmer was added to the eye makeup so that under overhead lighting, the gaze appeared deeper. The foundation was kept matte and flawless—given the eye-catching shine of the vinyl outfit, extra facial highlights were unnecessary.
Regarding props and the Retro bar set design, the wooden counter and liquor cabinet background unified the color tones, avoiding the plain monotony of bare studio sets. Although the shoot was physically demanding, the final photos reflected meticulous care in every detail—including the gloves, the relaxed drape of the jacket, and the grip on the cane. In the final curation, I selected moments that captured her calm composure, which reflects my understanding of the Grinning Professor: no need for exaggerated movements, as a single glance and subtle gesture convey ample narrative. This shoot gave me valuable experience with vinyl cosplay in Blue Archive, from lighting control to posing adjustments for future projects.
