Today is our wedding anniversary, and I chose this special day to shoot a formal Gothic dress photoshoot featuring a conceptual blend of Cecilia and Kiana from Honkai Impact 3rd. Connecting character traits with a real-life anniversary was a deeply ritualistic endeavor. The visual core of the entire styling lies in the intense collision of black, white, and red, along with intricate garment details.
Let's start with the outfit. This black gothic off-shoulder gown is made of lustrous satin fabric, whose subtle sheen lends rich depth and dimension to the overall silhouette. The tiered ruffles on the bust and the sculpted shoulder lines preserve classical elegance while introducing a bold touch of allure. Black lace mesh gloves and a black lace choker around the neck are the finishing touches; the purple teardrop gems dangling from the choker break the monotony of solid black and add a mystic aura. The short skirt hem pairs nicely with thigh rings and black strappy heels, where the combination of Black tights outfit and garters infuses a delicate, feminine accent into the solemn atmosphere.
For hair and makeup, to match the Cecilia cosplay and Kiana cosplay imagery in Honkai Impact 3rd, I wore an ultra-long straight silvery-white wig. The white bow and feather ornaments on top added weight to the upper silhouette and sculpted the side profile nicely. For makeup, a fair, translucent base was chosen to complement the white hair, paired with highly saturated true-red lipstick to make the overall look as delicate as a porcelain doll. Sapphire-blue colored contacts were also key: this reflective blue looks remarkably luminous under lighting, creating a sharp contrast against black eyeliner and lending the gaze a cold, glamorous, and focused intensity.
The shooting process was incredibly immersive. The set chosen was a European vintage-style interior; the crimson velvet drapes in the background, the antique carved mirror, and the golden horse statue harmonized beautifully with the gothic gown. For props, red roses were heavily featured; the deep crimson bouquet provided an eye-catching splash of color within the black-and-white dominated palette. When posing, I explored various angles of gaze direction, such as turning back over my shoulder and crossing my legs while seated. In the third seated shot in particular, sitting before a vintage vanity while holding a rose, the leg lines and texture of the Black tights outfit were fully accentuated under sidelight, while centered composition cleanly separated the black dress from the background.
Although inspired by Cecilia and Kiana from Honkai Impact 3rd, this creation didn't deliberately recreate a specific plotline; instead, it distilled their resolute yet compassionate aura and combined it with the joy and solemnity appropriate for today's wedding anniversary. Often, cosplay is not merely an external replication of a character, but a process where the cosplayer weaves their own life experiences into the interpretation. The black-and-white gown paired with red lips retained both the recognizable essence of the characters and a unique style aligning with my personal aesthetic.
From conceptualization and fittings to coordinating on-set lighting and movement with the photographer, the whole process took significant energy but yielded abundant rewards. In particular, through skillful control over light placement, these photos subtly highlighted facial contours and collarbone lines, creating a striking contrast between the highlights of the silvery-white hair and the shadows of the black gown. Even without focusing on specific character names, purely in terms of photo texture, it stands as a highly refined Gothic dress photoshoot. This shoot also gave me deeper insights into portraying gothic evening-gown characters. Freezing this meaningful date into these frames made for a truly special anniversary tribute.
