Recently, I pulled out the Blue Archive Ibuki convention photos shot at an earlier event to give them a fresh retouch. This old image restoration focused predominantly on color grading adjustments. Lighting inside Anime convention halls tends to be notoriously chaotic; while we strove to scout favorable light during the original shoot, background chromatic clutter remained prominent. For this round of post-processing, I deliberately dialed down the background's cool tones while accentuating the crisp contrast between the black military-style uniform and the crimson lining, endowing the images with richer texture.

Cosplaying Ibuki demanded substantial preliminary preparation. This black military greatcoat is packed with details: golden trim, white piping, and metallic chain accents, combined with wide crimson cuffs, project an aesthetic that feels both sharp and endearing with a touch of playful haughtiness. To faithfully recreate the military cap, the peaked hat adorned with a pink bow and heart insignia was custom-crafted. Then there were those bright yellow rain boots—walking in them for long periods was tiring, but running around the venue all day to capture striking visuals made the physical exertion well worth it.

Regarding props, the white-and-red graffiti-styled submachine gun was hand-painted by myself. Decorated with colorful stars, blue hearts, and yellow crescents, it added plenty of playful 2D whimsy. The prop held noticeable heft, requiring wrist engagement to keep it rock-steady before the lens while striking poses. Another charming touch was the brown plush teddy bear pouch slung at the waist; its red bow echoed the coat lining flawlessly, injecting an adorable gap-moe contrast into the rugged military uniform silhouette.

The convention was packed that day; to track down a less crowded corner with balanced illumination, we looped through the venue several times with our gear. When we started shooting, I was still tuning into the character's mindset. Ibuki carries that precocious, grown-up-acting charm, so for choreography, I explored an alert two-handed shooting stance as well as a confident, one-handed grip. Later, I pulled out a pre-drawn chibi illustration to showcase to the camera; that proud little smirk saying 'Look how well I drew this!' looked wonderfully vivid when captured in the candid snapshots.

To complement the convention photo mood, considerable care went into hair and makeup. The eye makeup emphasized reddish-brown tones, paired with a pale blonde wig with blunt bangs to accentuate the pointed elf ears, intensifying the 2D aesthetic. Because the coat's long hem trails low, it was easy to step on while walking, demanding close attention to balance and posture while ensuring the fabric didn't swallow the leg lines.

Every cosplay creation is truly a journey from conceptual imagination to tangible reality. From studying design sheets and picking fabrics to crafting props, doing on-site makeup, and framing camera angles, every phase requires dedication. Reworking this set was not merely organizing archives, but revisiting that focused state of mind. I avoided excessive skin-blurring, preserving authentic skin textures and makeup nuances. I hope each frame not only delivers a visual treat, but also communicates the heart and joy poured into embodying this character. With this continued passion, I look forward to tackling more challenging characters ahead.
