The convention shots of this Marie Rose cosplay from Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo were finally exported today. Although the shooting day was quite exhausting, seeing how the finished photos turned out made every bit of effort worthwhile.
I was very satisfied with the overall screen accuracy of this outfit. The primary color palette features a glossy deep-blue material that looked exceptionally textured under the venue's overhead ceiling lights. The top is a halter-neck design with an open back, framed by white ruffles along the neckline and a red ribbon bow. To harmonize with the overall look, I picked black glossy booty shorts for the bottom, paired with matching long wrist guards on the arms, and Over-the-knee socks boot covers with red-and-white stripes over the calves. The wig was styled as blonde twintails with blunt bangs; to ensure the tails whipped with a natural dynamic curve, I used plenty of holding spray during prep. Blue colored contacts paired with eye makeup emphasizing outer contours helped bring out the character's signature duality of sweetness and combative sharpness.
The shooting process was genuinely a physical challenge. To align with the martial arts attributes of this Fighting style cosplay, the photographer and I incorporated extensive dynamic movements after discussing the concept. For instance, in the high kick photo, freezing that mid-air split second required constant core engagement while keeping my facial expression composed. Fortunately, the glossy leather fabric offered decent stretch and didn't overly restrict limb mobility. Circular ceiling lights overhead hit the fabric at just the right angles, casting gorgeous specular highlights that added dimensional depth to the frame. As my hair whipped with the broad movements, the camera shutter fired continuously; successfully capturing those perfect kinetic moments brought immense fulfillment.
Foot traffic was immense at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. Even though it was an indoor hall, walking around in this non-breathable leather attire combined with a dense wig kept the perceived temperature very high. To keep the makeup immaculate, I had to find ventilated spots between takes, touching up with oil-blotting sheets and powder. Sometimes finding an angle without background pedestrians and with flattering light meant walking laps around the hall. The photographer was also very patient, guiding my balance and arm angles throughout. Because of the large movements, the wrist guard straps came loose several times and had to be retied. Overall, these Convention photos not only honed my body language expression but also deepened my understanding of conveying raw power through physical motion.
