[Rem cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-: Vintage Christmas Eve Photoshoot

For this Christmas Eve holiday shoot, I chose the character Rem, setting the entire session within the vintage ambiance of Hugo Photo Studio. The equipment used this time was a Sony ZV-E1 paired with a Tamron 35mm F1.4, a Yongnuo 50mm F1.8, and the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. The Tamron 35mm perspective was ideal for framing the scene within a relatively compact space, neatly capturing the Christmas tree, gift boxes, and vintage books in the background. The Yongnuo 50mm was used for half-body framing, balancing the subject with the environment. The 85mm focal length was mainly reserved for close-up portraits, where the creamy bokeh made the subject stand out.

In preparing for the shoot, costume fabrics and accessory details were top priorities. The red-and-white Christmas dress used subtly lustrous fabric, with white lace trims and red ribbons adding dimensional depth. The blue wig required careful fringe styling to conceal one eye, which, paired with blue contact lenses, focused the gaze to match the character's temperament. The black Over-the-knee socks—functioning as sleek Black stockings—paired with retro leather shoes were the centerpiece of this styling. To best showcase leg contours, I experimented with multiple seated and standing poses, including crossing legs, stretching them out, and sitting on the Christmas rug. For instance, in one shot sitting on a wooden chair, leaning forward and extending a hand toward the camera, the wide perspective of the 35mm lens accentuated spatial depth while highlighting the visual length of the legs, though coordinating the facial expression during the capture took careful focus.

Beyond the Christmas tree, the set incorporated props like candy canes, a lantern, and a teddy bear wearing a Santa hat. Interacting with these allowed for varied poses: standing while holding the lantern, leaning against the chair cradling the bear, and sitting on the floor with both hands on a candy cane. Red-and-white checkered curtains and the vintage rug on the floor added warmth, creating an appealing color contrast against the cool blue tones of the hair. The studio's antique clock and hardwood floors provided an elegant, steady backdrop. Since it was rather cold on the day of the shoot, the red-and-white Christmas cosplay outfit paired with warm ambient lighting visually offset the chill. Throughout framing, I paid close attention to background cleanliness, using the 85mm focal length to crop out clutter while leveraging the 50mm to capture the extension of the legs and feet from specific angles. The keeper rate across this Christmas Eve shoot was delightfully high, particularly with how softly the light fell across the face. Although most of the session involved adjusting poses and repositioning props, the visual payoff was very satisfying, and this red-and-white styling beautifully captured the Christmas season atmosphere.
