The Endless Eight has begun, and the SOS Brigade sets out! We finally scheduled and completed the full-member SOS Brigade group shoot for Haruhi Suzumiya that we've been longing to do. To guarantee shooting efficiency, we finalized all costumes, wigs, and props two months in advance. The character I portrayed this time is Haruhi Suzumiya, where the signature yellow ribbon headband and the North High Sailor suit are the very soul of the look. The Sailor suit features numerous details along the collar and cuffs, while the red neck ribbon and the Brigade Leader armband worn on the arm were custom-made, providing great quality and texture.
Our shooting locations were chosen across a pure white studio backdrop and a classroom set. To faithfully restore the anime's classroom vibe for this Classroom photo session, we specially prepared teaching aids such as a blackboard, school desks and chairs, oversized set squares, and protractors. Transporting and arranging these props alone took us over half an hour. Inside the pure white studio, we mainly focused on individual close-ups and five-person group shots. Since a white background lacks reference points, positioning and perspective demand precision; we tested several different line-ups before landing on the most harmonious composition.
Once we transitioned to the classroom set, the atmosphere was immediately maxed out. With the blackboard paired with wooden desks, it felt like instantly stepping back into the anime campus. In the central position, I sat atop a desk wearing black Over-the-knee socks. Truthfully, Over-the-knee socks tend to slip down easily during shoots, requiring subtle adjustments between takes. To project that commanding Brigade Leader aura, the photographer directed me to cross my legs naturally, rest my hands on the desk, and lean slightly forward. Holding this posture was quite exhausting, but the lines captured in the final shots turned out exceptionally well. The rest of the team coordinated wonderfully too—the guys in suit uniforms with ties standing beside us brought immense presence to the frame.
We also captured interactive moments, such as holding up handwritten cardboard signs reading "Recruiting Brigade Members." Everyone struck various chuunibyou yet hilarious poses toward the lens, bursting into laughter while shooting. The shots at the shopping mall location were taken at the very end; to nail the angle with the blue-lit stairs and glass balustrades, we walked back and forth holding drinks multiple times just to get that seemingly effortless candid snap.
The entire shoot ran from morning to night with barely any rest. As cosplayers, traveling for shoots always means dragging heavy suitcases filled with garments, wigs, cosmetics, and props. Yet seeing fellow enthusiasts unite for the same vision, adjusting each other's outfits and touching up makeup, brought immense fulfillment. The final collection spans studio setups, a classroom set, and outdoor locations, capturing diverse facets of the SOS Brigade's five members. I hope these Anime-style photography photos convey that pure anime joy to everyone.
