This costume, dominated by a red color scheme, paired with a fox mask on the side and a tasseled gourd ornament at the waist, is primarily designed to capture the character's tirelessly spontaneous and slightly dangerous unhinged temperament in the overall visual presentation.
Regarding the costume, the red fabric of the top is tailored to fit the body shape closely, and the golden piping at the collar and hem adds texture and layering to the overall look. The semi-transparent wide red sleeves and the long streamers at the back are not made of cheap, flimsy fabric, but possess a certain weight and drape. When moving or striking poses inside the exhibition hall, they can create excellent dynamic effects just by relying on airflow, which is a natural advantage for shooting fashion blockbusters on-site during convention photos. The fox mask on the side serves as a head decoration; it doesn't obstruct my facial features but instead allows people to focus more attention on my expressions and gaze. The thick-soled red strappy clogs paired with black leggings are both a practical choice to prevent wardrobe malfunctions and accommodate the character's original styling.
As for the wig and makeup, this time it was accomplished in cooperation with the wig stylist Lingxi. The red-and-black gradient hair color was trimmed to create layers, and the slight curl at the ends happens to present a natural arc when jumping or turning around. The focus of the makeup was placed on the treatment of that red blush at the outer corners of the eyes. Combined with the restrained gaze and the choice of lip color, we hoped to recreate that slightly dangerous feeling of being obsessed with teasing others. Meanwhile, the bell accessory around the neck and the red talisman-like prop in hand add a lot of playability to the details of the overall look.
During the shoot, we tried different compositions and postures. The low-angle semi-kneeling pose in image one, combined with one hand raised high, better reflects a kind of proud spontaneity. On the other hand, the single-leg standing posture in image two actually demands quite a lot from core muscle groups and balance. Staying stably supported while wearing these clogs with heels, while also needing to keep the body lines stretched, was tough, but it indeed beautifully showcases the costume's drape and the leg contours. The on-site photographer Xiaochai also mentioned managing balance several times while snapping this shot.
In terms of post-processing special effects, image three incorporates some fantasy elements to enrich the layers of the frame. That glowing, swimming goldfish surrounding the body, along with scattered sparks, bokeh spots, and red shards, is not meant to deliberately obscure the character's details, but to complement the character's fantasy battlefield atmosphere. During the early stages of shooting, we had already envisioned the placement of the post-processing effects, so the stretching range of the movements left enough space as much as possible, ensuring the character wouldn't look squeezed by the effects when synthesized.
The lighting and environment at the convention venue are actually quite complex. The high ceiling and cold gray concrete floor form an excellent cool-and-warm contrast with the red, white, and gold color scheme of the character. Utilizing a large-aperture lens to appropriately blur the background can both indicate that this is on-site at the exhibition and prevent the background from stealing the visual focus from the character itself. Looking at the entire set of finished photos, from the recreation of the costume and the extension of the movements to the integration of special effects, everything fits the character I initially wanted to present quite well. Although the shooting and post-processing required repeated communication and adjustments, as long as the final frame can convey the character's personality traits through camera language, all the hard work feels completely worth it.
