[Rei cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Convention photos: An archive of intricate textures and lighting

Today, I wrapped up shooting Rei from Zenless Zone Zero on the convention floor and rushed to retouch a few Convention photos during a break. This costume design is remarkably distinct—a pure white halter top paired with a light-blue bow tie, while the star necklace pendant, chest metal ring, and purple-to-blue gradient tassels offer unmistakable recognition. For the wig, I selected short Pink hair, complemented by Elf ears props and silver cross-star hairpins. To recreate the makeup, I intentionally blended pink-toned shades around the eyes paired with red contact lenses, striving to express that cool, piercing yet subtly enigmatic demeanor.

Shooting Convention photos always tests your ability to handle ambient lighting. The hall's overhead industrial lighting was quite messy today; to find clean angles, we circled the venue multiple times before finding an area with great bokeh separation for these close-ups. The white flared cuffs and lace trims showed crisp, detailed texture under the lens. Those semi-sheer mesh fabrics demanded extra exposure control—blowing out even slightly would flatten the layering—so I asked my photographer friend to test several aperture stops, and the final results were deeply rewarding.

Regarding posing: because Rei is designed with elven traits, I tried several playful hand gestures before the camera, such as spreading my fingers or holding a loose fist near the chest, pairing these with dynamic eye movements to bring vitality to the frame. In truth, what I enjoy most about every cosplay is connecting with fellow fans. Gathering for shared passion means that even with heavy makeup, wigs, and full gear on our feet all day, fatigue fades away. The fabric of this outfit was relatively stiff and the corset cinched quite tightly, but for the sake of a better silhouette, that minor discomfort was nothing. Next, I plan to explore other exhibition halls and check out friends' booths. I hope everyone enjoys today's return photos!

A quick note on my interpretation of the character: during preparation, I spent substantial time studying the garment details. It is far more than a simple black-and-white palette; against the white canvas, tiny silver star rivets, metal clasps, and strap accents exude a distinct techwear and futuristic vibe. Therefore, when doing my makeup, I avoided heavy, muddy eyeshadow, choosing instead to emphasize clean, separated lashes and a soft flush at the outer corners of the eyes to keep the base pristine and translucent, letting the hair and wardrobe remain the primary focal points.

Trimming and styling the wig was another technical feat. To give the pink bob dimensional layers, I repeatedly shaped the curve of the ends with a flat iron, while the placement of the blue hairpiece on the right and the silver headband were fine-tuned against the reference art so the head silhouette stayed flattering from every angle. Fans on-site were incredibly welcoming, with many coming over for selfies, and I gave my all to maintain peak energy in front of every lens. Though physically exhausted by the end of the day, seeing the previews on the camera screen confirmed that all the preparation was worthwhile.
