This time, I partnered with @浮よ_ to cosplay Makima and Ms. Yamada from Chainsaw Man. We chose the urban city streets at night as our location; the cool-toned neon and the reflections on the glass curtain walls fit perfectly with that distant yet dangerous vibe from the original work. My outfit consists of a leather jacket over a white inner top, paired with the iconic red hair. Everything from the curve of the hairstyle to the puppy-like downturn of the eye makeup was adjusted repeatedly, striving to recreate Makima's temperament—seemingly gentle but actually in full control of everything. The prop cigarette is an indispensable, soulful element, but during the photoshoot, I kept reminding myself of the angle of my fingers holding it—it needed to be relaxed but not sloppy, as the character's body language itself exudes an effortless composure.
Outdoor night photography really tests the fill light and lens stability. We used a low-power continuous light to brighten the face, which, combined with the ambient light from the mall behind us, made the hair strands' reflection and the amber color of the pupils look quite satisfying in the final photos. Ms. Yamada's white shirt and black tie look was highly eye-catching in the night scene, and when the two of us were in the same frame, the contrast between the red, black, and white color blocks turned out very photogenic for this Cosplay photography session. The fabric materials of the clothes this time were also selected with great care; the matte finish of the leather jacket and the crispness of the shirt created distinct layers. Shooting this kind of combination that carries a bit of dramatic flair and a contrast with daily life often makes it easier to discover another side of the character's personality compared to pure studio shoots.
Lastly, it should still be noted that the prop cigarette is just an accessory to match the scenario, and is of course not encouraged in real life. I hope this set of Night street photography allows everyone to feel Makima's unique aura, serving as our sincere tribute to the original character.
